I just started a thread in AIBU asking pro-choice MNers to read an article and email their MPs, it has disappeared.

Why is that? There was no abuse, no argument, no selling, no advertising. I haven't received an email explaining the decision. Is this moderation or censorship? Can you explain please?

CatherineMumsnet · 29/08/2011 14:21

Hi there, we're so sorry you didn't get an email from us. The thread was reported as a something where people were being asked to vote, which we don't allow.

Our sincere apologies if we got this wrong. Perhaps the OP could clarify?

CatherineMumsnet · 29/08/2011 15:08

Hi OP, we totally hold our hands up. Please do re-post and we promise to refrain from hitting the big red button deleting.

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2011 18:01

Hello all.

Just to add to CatherineMNHQ's earlier post - and hopefully clear up any remaining confusion about petition links...

We do have a policy of deleting "vote for me/my DD/my dog/my maiden aunt in this competition/award/online contest" threads - because we know, from the many bulges in our inbox, that these threads annoy a lot of you.

But, of course, we wouldn't normally delete a link to an online epetition that was posted on a thread discussing that very topic - although we did make a bit of a mistake over that today Blush.

If, however, someone started 7,000 threads about the same epetition or posted 7,000 duplicate posts all over the shop, all linking to the same epetition, we'd probably class that as spamming and bring the delete button into action.

Hope that's all a little clearer

@edam

Thank you, that sounds far more sensible. So, what happened with the 'let's not hang and flog every poor sod up before the beak in connection with the riots' thread, then?

Which thread was that, edam?

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2011 18:13

@2shoes

can't they at least have their own topic/be in the right one?

They should definitely be in the right topic, yes - please report them if they're not.

Not sure about having their own topic - we'll have to ponder that. Generally speaking, they'd fit nicely in In the News, no?

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2011 18:22

@edam

Helen, there was a thread after the riots, started by Pan, saying 'um, doesn't it seem a bit off that people are being assumed to be guilty, remanded and then sentenced to seven years hard labour for nicking a bottle of water' (I paraphrase ever so slightly), which I am told was deleted. I could be wrong about that though, haven't actually checked. Blush

Hmm, doesn't ring any bells we me, edam

Are you mentioning it because it was linking to an epetition?

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2011 18:24

@2shoes

HelenMumsnet I presume you will be moving the one in AIBU as it isn't an AIBU is it.

Sure thing. Could you do us a favour, though, and report it to us, please, 2shoes? It does make moving it about six squillion times easier.

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2011 18:27

@edam

yes, tyr and I are talking about the same thread. It was indeed in a relevant topic - poss 'In the News' or 'Politics', can't recall.

Ah, OK. Well, if it was a normal, nice, non-bunfighty, non troll-hunty thread with a nice, well-behaved little link to an epetition on it, it probably shouldn't have been deleted.

HelenMumsnet · 29/08/2011 19:11

@Pan

Helen - one or two buns were thrown, but in usual girly fashion, so non of them actually hit any intended target.

Girly fashion?

So why are you running, eh?

OliviaMumsnet · 29/08/2011 19:34

@MrsCampbellBlack

And I've reported stuff and get no response even when someone has said openly on twitter that they've been deliberately posting on threads to have a laugh.

Crikey. That's definitely not good enough - we're sorry if that was the case - it does sound most unlike us - we certainly read every mail that comes in and do our utmost to reply to every one too.
Thanks for this MrsCB. Will delve into this properly.

@2shoes

weird I did as Asked, yet thread is still there, perhaps it is no ok to post in the wrong topic and do petitions........

No it's not ok, 2shoes. Apols for our inefficiency - thread's now been moved Blush
