The problem with bold and italics

BertieBotts · 17/04/2011 09:30

I've just figured out what it is. If you try to do two different bolded words in the same paragraph it ignores the middle two asterisks and bolds everything in between as well. The same is happening with italics.

e.g.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

VS

The quick brown fox
Jumps over the lazy dog

Also: (I don't know what this does, I thought I'd experiment)

The quickbrown fox jumps over the lazy dog

And this thread. Twice, somewhere towards the end of page 1 and near the beginning of page 2 (I have 100 posts per page)

Hellooo? It's been over a week since you asked tech! Have we been forgotten, or do they just not know?

We've made some changes to how bolding works. Give it a try out and we'll make corrections where it's not quite working how you want.

HopeEternal · 13/05/2011 15:35

OK, this is a test.

HopeEternal · 13/05/2011 15:36

Now, let us try and italicise some things.

HopeEternal · 13/05/2011 15:36

Looking better, Adam. Thanks!

@HopeEternal

Now, let us try and italicise some things.

Reminded me that I forgot to say it's also been changed for underlining and italics.

It seems it will only work if one or more of the asterisks is at the start/end of a word with a space/newline next to it.

protest Works because it has a space/newline at the end
testate Works because it has a space/newline at the the start
detestable. Doesn't work because no spaces at either end.

This also prevents the use of both italic and bold together.
