I like Mumsnet, i really do but i do not want adverts for Russian girlfriends or the ability to get 'ripped' in 4 weeks. I don't know how these ads get on here - maybe I've read too many bumsex threads, but i don't want them. Give me something wholesome and boring.

Hi all,

Well as Rebecca has already said, these are not adverts coming from Mumsnet, and there's nothing dodgy going on our end. Some forms of spyware/adware will attach themselves to your browser (commonly Internet Explorer, but others can have the same problem).

You should employ some form of scanning software in order to keep your computer clean of such things. There is plenty of choice, though if you're after a free and effective solution Microsoft have their own Security Essentials program that works quite well. You should also make sure your browser is fully up-to-date (see: Update browser) to minimise security holes.
