There is a thingy at the bottom of the post message box that says, "convert links automatically".

But it doesn't seem to do anything.

LOL at Belgo with her Godiva. Not clicking on it.

Hi all,

This is a shiny new feature we've just implemented. Grin If you tick the little box that says "Convert links automatically", any hyperlinks in your post (e.g. www.mumsnet.com/) will automatically be made clickable when you post. If you don't want this functionality, then you can leave the box unticked.

Ok I'm a bit slow But

I opened a web page. Clicked copy then clicked paste on my message and then did convert link automatically except it didn't (or I didn't)

Hmmmmm not sure where I went wrong!

Ah, so if I am on a thread on OTBT and don't want a link to be clickable, I leave the box unticked so that others have to c&p.

Would it not be better to do it the other way around, since clickable links are the norm?

Can it not be made to shorten the links too? so it says something like www.mm.net/12345 instead of 4 lines of random letters?

@upahill: Are you sure you ticked the box? Your link seems to be shortening okay for me: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moel_Famau

@MmeLindt: Could be an idea, but we don't want to impose it upon unsuspecting MNers, who may not know about the feature and call for our immediate resignation because a link they didn't want linked got linked anyway. Or something like that.

@PaperView: Could do, we've got the technology in place to do this, and it would make the page a bit cleaner I think.
