Renegade Pictures trawling MN via Private Messages

Apologies if there is already a thread on this. I've received a Private Message via MN from Renegade Pictures asking me if I want to be exploited and humiliated in a an apology for a documentary appear in some trash they are making.

Just want to name them and shame them here. The message is from a producer Paula at Renegade. The username in which the message appeared is Sophiescott. They are making the programme for the BBC. I wonder if the BBC has developed ethical rules of conduct about trawling online communities.

Apparently the post that prompted their intrusion related to my difficulties with my teenage son. Mumsnet has really had it as a support site if we have reached the point where an anonymous appeal for support prompts journalistic attention. I don't even know which post it is so I will have to work back through my posting history so that I can request a deletion.

Anyone know of a good support site that is 'by parents for parents'?

ooh this is happening more and more
wonder if they will scrap PM and go back to CATs

yogididabooboo · 17/02/2011 14:46

What a dispicable way to avoid the fee for advertsing.

have you reported them to MNHQ so that they can get in touch and tell them to piss off?

bibbitybobbityhat · 17/02/2011 14:48

Oh no! So sorry Eleison. I saw this had happened to someone else yesterday. Its very intrusive.

Eleison · 17/02/2011 14:57

Thanks.

Yes, reported to MNHQ. And (officious little twat that I am) I filed a complaint to the BBC via their online form.

Really sorry about this. Just wanted to let you know that we have been made aware of this - it is totally not on! And we have dropped them a mail to let them know.

taugenichts · 17/02/2011 15:16

ugh

Eleison · 17/02/2011 15:17

Ugh. Not nice at all, eleison.

juneybean · 17/02/2011 16:45

Ohh this reminds me I got one I meant to report

juneybean · 17/02/2011 16:46

Oh...how do I report a PM?

juneybean · 17/02/2011 16:47

Mine was from chrissie24 / chris / viceuk.com

Eleison · 17/02/2011 16:54

I just sent it to the [email protected] email address juney. MN were very quick and helpful.

Perhaps there could be some pop-up warning when someone hits 'send' on a PM, saying something like 'Fuck the fuck off if you are a freeloading journo wanting to spam people'

It would be better if there was some message that appeared when someone was about to start typing (perhaps the default text in the message box, given the Tech staff have some bug fixes quirks to delete amend).

Something on the lines of

''If you are contacting a member to help with any form of project, be it journalistic enquiry, documentary to be used for any radio or TV service, or even as part of an educational course seeking participants for surveys or study, then you must first contact Mumsnet.com with details. Send an e-mail to contactus....

Unsolicited contact via this message service for your type of use is prohibited without prior agreement from Mumsnet, and action will be taken against anyone who misuses the prvate message service.''

Eleison · 18/02/2011 08:12

You missed out 'fuck the fuck off' ShockGrin

Hello ! I'm soooooort of new, but have been about since June last year. Right now I'm sat between GerryMumsnet and HelenMumsnet scoffing Hobnobs and drinking Brew. It's a tough oul life.

taugenichts · 18/02/2011 13:10

Did you win your job in a TV reality show, Nancy? Wink

CaptainNancy · 18/02/2011 14:03

Ah... the fragrant Gerry.... silverfox that she is Grin I cannot imagine Gerry scoffing hobnobss at all!
She would sip a tisane in a tall elegant cup, with a mararon on the side of the saucer Wink

Eleison · 18/02/2011 14:06

Thought you meant Marathon for a second there. I was going to say that slender Gerry didn't seem to me like a Snickers kind of a gal. Macaron, yes.

that is complete scumbaggery, how vile. interesting to know if it works, though, i can't think of anything more off-putting than someone pming to say 'hello i have been stalking your posts, would you like to come on camera and talk about the feelings that thus far you have only been able to talk about on an anonymous forum?'

Eleison · 18/02/2011 14:11

Yes, it is bizarre isn't it. It doesn't bode well for the 'sensitive' documentary they spoke about making.

Nasty, nasty conversion of the whole of life into media fodder. What I loved about MN at the start was that here was a miracle: a mass communication that was autonomous from all the media tropes and was our own voice, for itself. In a hundred ways it is no longer that. The world of advertising, entertainment, political slickery has gobbled it up.
