All this recent thread deleting and trollery and troll hunting and stuff

Dear MNHQ,

Today has been a bit crazy with all the threads being deleted all over the place, and then people running around asking questions, and more threads deleted - surely there's a better way?

Is there going to be a MN policy or summat (end of working day, brain switching off) on this, and troll hunting, as it seems to be going crazy right now.

IS there not a way of rather than deleting troll threads of locking them - kind of like the locking works when threads hit 1000 posts.

If MNHQ put an explanation at the end of the thread before locking it would (hopefully) reduce the number of threads, about threads, about threads.

Obviously personal attacks and the like should go - but general stupidness (ie poo stuff) would still be there - but no-one could add to it?

Then you at least wouldn't get people starting threads saying "what happened to the poo thread, I was half way through it, and the whole thing being rehashed again - as they could just read the poo thread to the end, see MNHQ's response so no-one would need to rehash.

I also agree with Pixies post about what information we are/aren't told. If there was a blanket "This is how much we will tell you about any troll thread" then it would stop people asking more (a bit)

I voted for the thread graveyard a few weeks ago.

A thread deletion is like your parents closing the door whilst arguing. It makes you more intrigued and then you'll just keep going...

I have also suggested this. Deleting content and replacing with brief note, and locking the thread.

Removing all trace will never work. It will always result in lots of questioning threads.

I really wish MNHQ would choose to do it instead of deleting.

I'm really pissed off about this tbh. We're given no real explanation about was is going on and its actually rather patronising. We're grown adults and we are being treated like children. Are we not allowed to have any disagreements now? will every thread where there is an argument get deleted?

OK, I have a brilliant idea. How about this?

Once a troll is identified, they should be allowed to go on posting as much as they like. Only, and here's the kicker, their posts should be visible to nobody but themselves? Repeat as necessary for each new incarnation.

Surely the vast majority of them would just get bored and fuck off after a while?

Doubt a thread graveyard would work tbh. Not when what some trolls want is the pleasure of seeing their threads there in black and white. And while they were there in black and white, others would be started to respond to, refute, attack etc sentiments within the locked thread and the new thread would just take on the mantle of the locked thread.

I like that they delete. It gives the clear message of 'this will not be tolerated, there is no place for it here, beggar orf please'.

there are quite a few of us who would prefer threads ot stand.

other than unacceptable personal insults (and I don't mean of the "you twat" variety), threads and posts should stand.

we should be able to see hwo the trolls are, and the wankers who post crappy rascist/sexist/disablist posts.

let the wankers be shouted down reasoned with, and let the posts stand.

otherwise all that happens is utter tripe can be posted (and oftenis), and then denied for ever after...
