What exactly IS the rule on profanities in thread titles?

Because I note a signifant inconsistency of approach in deployment of the Trigger Finger

is "cunt" only to be tolerated when it is used as an insult rather than as a reference to female genitalia?

or is it only when posted by me that it warrants immediate deletion?

So cunting what...bovvered?

While personally I would rarely if ever use the word, and certainly not in a thread title, if there are threads being deleted, then it surely ought to be the case than MNHQ justifies their decision, and not only justifies it, but has a record of who did it and what complaints (if any) had been made - so even if they don't "name names" they can clearly see whether (a) some individual routinely complains about some other individual, and (b) be able to tell the OP how many complaints had been received.

I don't think I've ever see a policy explained about it, just think the "tolerated but not encouraged" line is most likely. How about an explanation, please, MNHQ ?

As for reputation, I think I've heard mention of Netmums 3 or 4 times on the radio in the last 10 days and not one mention of MN - so maybe there has been a secret whisper in media circles that MN is no longer flavour of the year, now that politicians are ignoring them. (No idea if politicians are, but the only mention of Mumsnet I remember in the last month was on an episode of Spooks!

SPB - if you are skivving at work then don't blame us if something inappropriate like cock, fuck, bumsex or the other appear in a title ! :)

I don't have much truck with the "my children read over my shoulder" brigade

if your children go around peering at other people's screens/newpapers/mail/whatever, they are going to come across the odd naughty word

and it isn't a children's website

but the point is not "are we allowed to swear in thread titles"

the question is "given that we clearly ARE allowed to swear in thread titles, why the fuck do I get deleted, again"

The AIBU thread is still there....

Was it you that started the 'cunt like a clowns pocket' thread? I saw it in actives - thought "eww" and carried on down actives.

GunpowderTreasonAndSNOTSleeves · 03/11/2010 18:40
