AIBU to want 100 threads in Active Conversations?

Well, am I? I have it set to 100 and it says "Searched for last 100 discussions with new messages" at the top of my active convos page, but, I never have 100 threads shown

I counted just now [sado] and there were 49.

mmmm. Set it to 50 and then back to 100 and that seems to helped for now . It doesn't usually help for long though...

I've wondered about this before as well but assumed that it gives you the 100 but doesn't show you ones in the topics you have hidden so the number will wary all the time depending on the make up of the last 100.

Am I right ?

I find it sometimes has hardly any. But haven't actually counted them

AFAIK it should always be 100 (or whatever number you've set it too), regardless of how many topics you've hidden. Maybe I'm wrong though.

When a new topic is added (or tech is up to stuff) it will drop down to a very few threads, but usually only for a few minutes.

I seem to still have about 100, but haven't counted. It's a lot better than it was anyway.

Had a 'tech's been busy' looking shortage just now (white space between last thread on active convos and the list of links at the bottom) probably 30ish. Now it's back to looking like 100ish. Can't be arsed to keep counting all the time.

Very annoying.

I think what it does (from memory) is start off with about twice the number it thinks you want. Then it knocks off any you've hidden, then chops the list at the cutoff (50, 100 etc.) So if you've asked for 100 in your list, but you've hidden 124 out of the last 200 threads, your list will only show 76 (200 - 124) threads.

Are you hiding a lot of threads maybe?

I suspected it might be something like that so gave it a test on Friday, I had 56, then hid 6 random threads, after which I had 66. So, I assumed it must be something else.

I do hide a lot of threads, but not loads. Certainly not 124 from the last 200. Do hidden topics come into it? I'm pretty sure plenty of people hide as many (or more) topics as I do.

But, it's been looking OK for the last hour or however long it is since I came down from putting the DC to bed.

Yes, topics would count I think. If you hide a topic that is very busy you might lose a big chunk of your list. We'll have a look at it anyway and try see what is going on.

I never hide threads/topics and it does the same thing to me. It's been going on for a while, too.

I've not hidden AIBU or Chat but some of my hidden topics probably are quite busy. Antenatal shite Clubs for one. Mmmm. I might have to start being more tolerant
