HAve been looking at the once a day sun creams and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations... I am quite fair as are the kids

P20 - lasts up to 10 hours but is only spf 20

Soltan (boots own) Once - lasts up to 6 hours and goes up to spf 50+

Piz buin - up to 6 hours and goes up to spf 30+

Mostly just to use in the garden but also in Portugal in August...

any experiences?
thanks so much

Oh, and UVA has now been designated as carcinogenic too (by the WHO) not just ageing, so high levels of protection against it is v important.

I spoke to the lady in Boots today. They do now sell P20 and yes, it does now offer protecion from UVA and UVB rays. Her only problem with it really was that it was only factor 20.

However she was happy for me to buy it, esp as DD reacts to so many other of the creams available there. Ultrasun wasn;'t available there.

We live in Spain I swear by Piz buin (15 in winter and 30 in summer), doesnt stink like some of the others and leaves skin very moisturised.
For ease I use a Sunsense Ultra SPF 60 (!)on my 2 year old ginger dd. Also excellent for doing clevage etc when just going into town rather than covering myself in cream.
Hope this helps

Another P20 fan here,

I have used it on both my fair skinned children for the last few years in Greece in August with no problems. I still make sure they have hats, t shirt on etc but find it saves all that faffing of re applying in the heat.

I've not worried about it only being SPF20 since they come back as pale as they went so I KNOW it works.

Seem to remember an article saying SPF 30 blocks 98% of the sun while SPF60 only blocks a further 1% they just have more chemicals in and cost more so not really worth it.

Has anyone used the Nivea spray? It looks like P20 - a liquid - but you have to reapply. I find P20 dries my skin out, wondered if the Nivea would be any better (but not stain clothing - don't want to use a cream for that reason).

I agree with minthumbug re ultrasun- its fantastic stuff, especially love the sport gel factor 20 one(not for kids or face though)as its not sticky.
Have recently tried calypso once a day factor 40 and was pleasantly surprised,it was v cheap in Home Bargains it has a nice mild coconut smell too.Not sure if I trust it like the ultrasun though..

My kids have very fair skin and I always use Calypso Once a Day on them. It lasts up to 8 hours and goes up to SPF50+.
