School trousers for big-waisted, short-legged boys of 11 - any recommendations?

I'm currently having to chop large quantities of cloth off the bottom of ds' school trousers (which have to be black or dark grey) before turning up the hems. His waist size is basically 31 inches, and I measured the inside leg seam of a pair of trousers which are the right length, and it was 24 inches. Does anyone know of any shops selling trousers with generous waists and short legs? (Ideally non-iron since I can't usually be bothered with ironing.)

He is, by the way, doing lots of sport and eating much more healthily than before, so should be beautifully svelte by Xmas...was a victim of me working full-time for a bit and taking my eye off the ball

We've only been able to get ds school trousers from BHS. One of them they do in dark grey has a bit of elastic on each side.

Thanks - I'll definitely try BHS then. I was in Tesco looking today but could only find very long 31-inch waisters. I'll keep looking though, I'm always in there.

A range called 'zeco' can be found online by looking up Kids and Co direct. Had the same problem and they are good quality too.

second BHS... they do a generous range but they are much bigger all round.
I tried them for my 10 yr old ds1 who is really big/tall but not fat and the legs were really baggy. In the end it was best to go for age 13 and turn them up a little.

Hi Fauve,, having a 10 yr old with a big waist was so difficult until i found BHS generous fit, he amazingly fits in to a '10yr' pair of school trousers comfortably and perfect in the leg! Won't buy from anywhere else now, For my Ds's they were £11 for 2 pairs but obviously are priced depending on age! Hope that helps
