Volvo XC90 - what other cars to consider? needs to fit 3 car seats in the back

We are going to the car dealers tomorrow
Mostly to look at the Volvo XC90

We will need to fit 3 car seats in the back and have plenty of boot space

What other cars should we consider?

ahhh seats not in use are currently at my parents - I'll have to get them brought back

we can do 2 RF seats and one booster it's just I don't like one of them as you have to tether it to the passenger seat

.....but there again if it's a new Volvo you can specify integral booster seat, probably 2 max.

Well, we HAD a Volvo V70 and then changed to an XC90 and I have to say, the XC90 wins, hand over fist!

I always found the V70 a rather low car, and the visibility out of the rear window rather poor.
I never managed to fit 3 car seats across the back either

The XC90 gives you a fab driving position, and although the boot is shorter, the options to fold down seats etc make it v.v. flexible.

What Stage car seats do you need? One of the tings we LOVE about the XC90 us that it has a 'flip up' booster seat in the middle of the back which means that it can provide an 'occasional; seat e.g. when taking extra kids home from school etc.

The XC90 has just been fantastic in the snow too, and also in mud/ countryside/semi-off road.

The only downside I'd say is that we used to put our bikes on the roof of the V70, but the XC90 is too high, so we had to buy a rear towbar bike rack, which was a bit pricey!

I love my Lexus RX450h (it's a hybrid 4x4 with very reasonable CO2 emission). THe only reason I would switch cars would be for the possibility of a 3rd row (which the XC90 has).

throckenholt · 15/01/2010 19:32

vw touran - just fits 3 high back boosters across the middle row. Huge boot with the 3 row of seats folded down, and tiny one with them up. They fold into the floor.

And with the diesel you get reasonable fuel economy (approx 50mpg)

EldonAve · 15/01/2010 21:11

Thanks everyone

Fuel economy is pretty irrelevant for us as we barely do 2000 miles a year

2000 miles per year? Surely it would be better just to rent when you need one?

traceybath · 16/01/2010 10:32

We test drove the xc90 but ended up getting the ford s-max titanium which I love.

Plenty of space for 3 car seats in the back and just lovely really.

EldonAve · 16/01/2010 10:34

Renting doesn't work as I then need to get kids plus car seats to the rental place

SofaQueen - I loved my Lexus RX but couldn't fit 3 car seats across the back, We could squeeze them in but then DS lost the ability to do his own up and I was worried that there would be battles on long journeys!!

I love Lexus and have an IS for school run, nipping around town and would get another one instantly if they brought out a 7 seater. We traded in for an Audi Q7.

sowhatitsonlysnow · 16/01/2010 13:22

Or a this

sowhatitsonlysnow · 16/01/2010 13:23

ops, that's at US site

sowhatitsonlysnow · 16/01/2010 13:25

This is UK Car Clubs

mrmellors · 16/01/2010 16:35

We have a Touran, fits three car seats nicely on the middle row, over all a nice car but there's no escaping it's pretty dull to look at.

I've got my eye on a Mercedes e-class estate next.

mrmellors · 16/01/2010 16:40

You should also look at the Honest John website which gives the pros and cons of each make and model, common problems etc - scarily accurate for a couple of cars I've owned.

Thanks

We are currently looking at new cars as want a bigger car than the golf we have. We only have 2 children, may have a third and want extra seats in case other kids come to play etc.

We have been researching the Honda FRV with the 6 seats which looks good, Mazda 5 which has sliding doors and 7 seats and nissan quashqai +2.

I also like the disco but I do 80 miles a day doing the school run!!!!

Gives you a few more ideas!

EldonAve · 25/01/2010 14:04

Thanks

Does amyone know whether the Mercedes E class estate fit three high-backed boosters across the back? Does the Landrover Disco? Is that using Isofix points or not?
