Fancy cameras. Recommend me a digital SLR.

Currently thinking Nikon D40 or D60.

Any experience/opinions.

I've wanted this for my entire adult life, and don't want to get it wrong.

What's good?

went for it and got the d90.
taking great pics straight out the box and thankfully DS1 is a very willing subject. such a poser.

got the UV filter as recommended by oysterpots too, so no jammy fingers on the lens.
