YY You Choose is great at first and then they want it every bloody night and to go through it multiple times "Mummy you choose!! Which one do you want??" Oh GOD not this fucking thing again 😅😂

The only way to survive is to secretly pick a fictional character and make all your choices as that character but without explaining to your child.

Nothing wrong with reading old favourites, but this mum is looking at getting new books for a five year old. Probably because her child has outgrown this kind of stuff. So I wouldn’t recommend that op buys this when she is specifically looking for older children’s books, what’s what she asked for. So I was warning her.

It doesn't matter if the books have pictures. The important part is that you're reading them together. Reading should be fun and frequent.
If you can, I'd take him to the library and let him choose. It's like shopping but free and any ones you don't like you can just return 😂
My DDs loved that at his age. He might surprise you with his choices. DD1 always chose better books than I did.
In my county, you can keep the books out for 3 weeks and you can renew them online if you realise you won't be able to return them in time.

My 4 yr old absolutely loves the Max Meow comic book series, great if they want to move on to chapter books but still have pictures.
