What are families honestly spending on their weekly food shop?

cost of weekly food shop - Our food shop cost is crippling me. Our weekly food shop is £300 for 2 adults , 14 year old and a cat. My husband thinks that’s normal and is just the cost of living when I know my friends are paying half that. His response is well they are not being honest and they are actually paying more.

I can’t continue paying £300 a week, it’s insane I know . I’ve tried talking to him that it’s too much and he’s blaming me stressing over it on “ time of the month” as usual.

My question is , honestly what are families spending on their food shop weekly.

I spent £67 today on me and one teen.

At the beginning of the month I do a big bulk shop for the cupboard and freezer. Which usually comes to £200.
Some of which is to stockpile for winter.
Then every week the fresh stuff comes to about £50.
There is just the 2 of us and we have both retired. We have no children or pets.

We budget £800 a month, but have recently switched to getting as much as we can from Aldi/Lidl and only going to Sainsbury’s for things we don’t want to switch - some brands etc. That’s for 2 adults and 2 kids and includes the ad hoc shops we do at co-op.

It doesn't help we are all vegan..yet they all want burgers , pizza, chocolate.
And that stuff is bloody expensive when your vegan.
Plus two dogs at £10 a week food .
I try to make cheaper meals , lasagne, cottage pie ,stir fry ,ect..there's always someone moaning.
It's definitely the most expensive it's ever been

About £100-150 a week for two adults and 1.5 teens, plus dog.

2 adults, 2 dc - around £140 a week and that's with me not being particularly careful. No pets though.

About £60 a week for an adult and a toddler who gets lunch and dinner at nursery

How much do you waste and put in food waste and compost bins ? We only throw bones and fish skins and veg peelings. Our food waste is zero and that makes such a difference.

Agree with others. That seems very high. We also spend £150 per week for 3 adults unless it is a special occasion. And we are high income and not particularly trying to cut costs. What are you spending £300 a week on??

It's quite a lot more than £1000 per month!

Probably around £200 per wk (all meals). 3 adults and 1 teenager. That’s being careful. No alcohol included.

We used to shop Tesco and Sainsbury's but it was getting unaffordable.
We go to Aldi now and just top up stuff we can't get in Sainsbury's.. Average weekly shop probably about 70-80quid for 2 adults 1 child and 1 baby.
When we were solely using the more expensive shops it was costing us between 100-150.
I have to say some of the stuff in aldi is actually nicer, the chocolate feasts for one, and a lot of the wine/cheese etc is sourced from places like Italy.

For a week simply food , 3 adults ( 1 gluten free) shopping mainly in M&S with a bit of Tesco we spend about £150 per week . Cleaning things / loo rolls all bulk bought from Costco plus fish / water / charcuterie which probably averages out at £150 per month . We don’t eat red meat , have fish at least twice a week and don’t buy any alcohol and minimal biscuits / chocolate etc as we are all tee total and 2 of us are low carb .

Our household has 4 adults, myself, DH, and adult DS and DD. I spend around £120 to £140 in Tesco, top up shop at weekend in Morrisons probably around £50 to £70, then around £30 to £50 every two weeks at our local butcher’s. That includes all packed lunches for everyone Monday to Friday. We also have 1 cat who I have a monthly subscription for food which is between £30 to £60 a month depending if she has 1 can or 2 cans of food a day.

Approx £600 per month 3 adults 2 cats. I can’t afford anymore than that so the food has to last. Usually it’s a shop in waitrose, a shop online from Iceland and a couple of top up shops in the coop in between this month has been different.

i was hoping to spend a lot less as have been clearing out the freezer but not saved anything at all. That’s to get us through to the 27th which is pay day.

That’s really high. Does it include a lot of alcohol? I would think £150 would be an average amount for your situation.

Probably about £160, but tbh, the op isn't unreasonable if that includes everything: DH buys a sandwich and yogurt every day at work, and we buy coffee separately too. Probably eat out once a week too - all of which will probably add up to the ops figure.

180-200 for the main shop, then maybe 20 on a top up. Family of 4, kids 8 and 4 plus a cat. I feel like we buy pretty much whatever we fancy within that so £300 seems a lot.

£300 per week does seem high - do you do a lot of entertaining? Is all of the food being eaten or do you have food left over/goes out of date? I hope you get sorted.
