Tap water tastes unpleasant: bottled water or a tap filter?

The water that comes out of my tap tastes disgusting but apparently it is safe. I think it's full of chemicals. Would it be best to buy bottles or a filter. I've heard about microplastics but is it still safer than whatever a filter can catch? Can anyone recommend a filter that attaches to the tap or something as I'd rather do that.

A filter is better for you and better for the environment.

Filter. But often any chemical smells evaporate if you leave the water in the fridge for a while.
