Need something to bring to a party from St Pancras/King’s X

Attending a Christmassy dinner in north London this evening. Hosts are in their 50s, writers/in academia, their two kids in uni. I am friends with the woman as former colleagues tho we’re not close close friends. I haven’t seen her for a couple of years.

I’ll arrive into St Pancras station and would like to grab a hostess gift that isn’t a bottle or flowers. If you were hosting a dinner party for 8 adults what would you like to receive as a hostess gift?

Nice chocolates or flowers, possibly alcohol, or good non alcohol drink if you aren’t a drinker, all readily available at St Pancras

What time do you arrive? The British library is opposite and has a shop.

Chocolates? Cheese and nice crackers to go with? Maybe, given the time of year, a nice Christmas decoration if you can find one?

There is a small John Lewis at St Pancras which will have gifts (including jams & lemon curd etc)

I would choose an edible gift as if it’s not to your hosts’ taste it would still be useful for gifting

Or a potted plant

Tin of biscuits from Fortnums, if they still have a shop in St Pancras

Whyherewego · 13/12/2025 12:52

Fortnum shop at St Pancras and you can bring a tin of posh biscuits. The toffeelossus are incredible

There is a very fancy chocolate shop at St P an Elan also have a nice pop up cookie stand for Xmas - think it’s call crumbs so you could get a box of special cookies. There is also a Fortnums for tea/ chutneys/ jams etc

Loads of choice at St Pancras. I’d go for a naice candle or macarons from Laduree

There is a Neuhaus at St Pancras. Their chocolate is absolutely to die for.

Confirming Fortnums is still there. It's busy, but still has plenty of stock, so you should be able to grab something. Think the biscuits are fairly close to the door - some nice tins. :)
