lol!

My answer to mine is: "well they wouldn't if I was the mummy"

MascaraOHara · 30/05/2008 15:07

yess too much and too young. get her a bicycle

tissy · 30/05/2008 15:10

NO to the phone.

"Everyone" doesn't have one- that's just not true. What 8 yr old NEEDS to be in phone contact with her mates 24 hours a day?

iPod, no, but a cheaper mp3 player, maybe. I was getting black vinyl Bay City Rollers singles at that age!

I gave her the answer "too bad - everyone but you!" when she used that argument to get her ears pierced.

She's getting a bike from my parents.

What else is there? No more Polly Pockets or Pet Shop, pleeeeease!

No, no and no. Be firm and brutal - agree save till year 6 or secondary.

You could relent on the MP3 player - there are plenty of cheap ones around (my ds8 inherited a v. cheap ancient one from dh). But a phone - no. (Stalinist mum)

No to phone. In Ireland they are trying to ban them for under 12s I think. Danger of radiation.

Ipod - up to you. I don't like anything with earphones for them too much at that age really.

Nintendo DS?

cariboo · 30/05/2008 15:21

I agree about the phone. She desperately wants one (no, this should not be a factor in my decision!) They're not allowed at school but it would be a relief to be able to find out where she's playing without having to ring up all the neighbors with kids under 10.

Buda, I'm ashamed to say that dd got a Nintendo for Xmas.

When I was 8 (yawn!), I was thrilled to get this doll - Velvet?- with hair that you pulled to make it long. I thought that was the coolest thing!

Far too young for either items.

boredveryverybored · 30/05/2008 15:34

Definitely too young for either, but the ipod only because of the expense I think. My dd is 7 and she has a cheap MP3 player. I had a walkman at that age don't see nything wrong with it. I just wouldn't be spending out for an ipod when there's a good chance it'll get broken!

Buda · 30/05/2008 15:36

No need to be ashamed cariboo - My DS bought one last year with the money he got for his 6th birthday!

Cheap MP3 player then possibly. Can you get docking stations for them so she can have the option of playing her music in her room?

Enid · 30/05/2008 15:39

no to phone here

yes to ipod (mainly because dd1 saved up for an ipod shuffle with her own money £35)
