What to wear for a Christmas wedding?

A colleague of my husband is getting married the Saturday before Christmas. I don’t know anyone at this wedding, I’ve met the groom a handful of times and maybe met the bride once at a do to say hello to.
Husband and groom have worked together for a long time and are quite close. The wedding will be fairly posh (black tie for men, long or short gowns for women). What would you wear?
I’m 50, 5’3 and approximately a 16 (although hoping to have lost some peri weight by then 🤞)
I do love Scarlett & Jo dresses, but would have to go midi as I think I’d be too short for the long ones.

Something Christmas coloured in a luxe fabric - velvet or silk

Saying that we got married on 28th and people just wore a mix really with more autumnal / jewel colour palette

Ooh, I love the idea of the fur and velvet over the top 😊

Following with interest, also have a Christmas wedding (evening only) but not as formal.

Any chance you can ask the bride? I've been in similar situation of not knowing what to wear, asked the bride and she picked a few dresses for me and then I chose one of them. I think it's best to play it safe, especially if you don't really know the bride.

No, I don’t know the bride at all and I’m unlikely to see or speak to her before the event.

What about a tartan dress ? Christmassy and smart enough for a wedding
