Out of pocket because of Amazon

I needed something for my kitchen to replace something that I use daily from Amazon. The internal packaging was unsealed and the product was damaged and had clearly been used and returned previously. So I have started a return. The earliest they can collect is next weekend when I am available and it says in their returns email that it is going to take 30 days from receiving it to get a refund. Until they refund me I don’t have the money to buy another one, I know that isn’t their fault but I am very inconvenienced and they never should have sent me a used item in the first place. Do I have any rights?

You’re not out of pocket. You’re getting a refund.

Was there not an option to drop it off yourself rather than have it collected?

Amazon are really quick with refunds and usually start proceeding as soon as it’s sent. It’s highly unlikely to take 30 days.

Didn’t you have the immediate refund if you choose to credit your amazon account? And then re-buy from there?
And also the option to drop off the return?

Nope

This is why I don't buy from Amazon (other than once a year when I buy something innocuous to get 'free' Prime in order to watch Clarkson's Farm). Much of the stuff on there appears to come from overseas anyway.

Do you return stuff often ? I've only returned stuff a couple of times & as soon as the return parcel was sent, I was refunded
