Its ds's birthday in a few days time and hes now interested in cars/car transporters/fire engines etc so I was thinking of getting him a play garage! I've looked at the ELC garage which is £60 and wondered if anyones DC have this, if so, whats it like, any other suggestions?

TIA

we have an old elc wooden one (i'm afraid we got it at a car boot sale for £3!!), ds is nearly 3 and loves it, it's one of his favorite toys, he is car mad.

We've had this one since ds1 was 2 (he's 5 now) and he still plays with it. I think it was at its most popular when he was 3!

we got ds a cheap one at about that stage and it didn't last the week. Definately worth paying a bit more than the minimum. ELC should be quite robust I should think.

Ds1 has this one. It is very popular, and looks quite nice too as these things go. He had it for Christmas and has played with it every day since.

if we didn't have a plastic elc one I would buy
this one
same with the kitchen on the site

Thanks for advice everyone!

I love the wooden garage. MuffinMclay - do you need to use wooden size cars on it or can you use the hot wheels type? (sorry if this is a silly question!)

Hot wheels cars and matchbox ones fit just fine.

my ds has the elc one ... and it is fine but if you move it around bits do tend to drop off - which isnt a problem as they click back on but might be annoying if you were going to move it around a lot. That said, ds likes it!

fiodyl · 08/05/2008 13:55

My DS(and DD) have the whizz around one from elc but he is only 1yo so it may be a bit too youg for a 3 yo but he loves it

saralou · 08/05/2008 14:03

we have the elc big city garage.... don't buy it!!! it falls apart (well easily pulled apart by 17 month old younger brother!!) and it's getting on my nerves!!!

in fact i think most elc stuff can be pulled apart too easily!!!

We bought the plan toy wooden garage and vehicles. It has been a great buy and would recommend it to any one they also do airports etc so you can build up a whole city www.kidsstufftoys.co.uk/brands/55-plan-toys/toys

MuffinMclay · 08/05/2008 14:22

2babies - if you do get that one set aside a good amount of time to build it, and have a good medium-sized crosshead screwdriver to hand (we didn't and had to abandon building part way through until we could buy one, much to ds1's disappointment).

wohmum · 08/05/2008 14:47

we've got this one :
cgi.ebay.co.uk/FISHER-PRICE-HUGE-GARAGE-WITH-CARS-Excellent-Condition_W0QQitemZ110247881236QQihZ001Q QcategoryZ374QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (not my listing by the way!)

ds2, 5, more or less grown out of it so if you are any where near north-west london you could have mine - could do with a wash to make it look brand new , but otherwise in perfect condition. and its very sturdy!

Thanks for posts everyone. A very kind offer thanks Wohmum but I actually ordered one yesterday.

I chose Le Toy van wooden one (recommended by MuffinMclay & JinnglyJen). If anyone else is interested I ordered direct from Soup Dragon and it was the same price as via Amazon but I could speak to someone to arrange next day delivery as DS's 3rd birthday on Sunday. DP will be pleased about another toy that takes us a day to put together!!
