Vinted - just fucked up

Anyone else have issues with vinted? I encounter so many sellers who describe the item as “very good” or size 10. When it shows up the items is in terrible condition or the sizing is wrong.

if the seller disagrees with you, then as a buyer there is absolutely nothing you can do. Vinted doesn’t help, doesn’t make
judgement, just takes the ‘buyer protection fee’ and leave seller and buyer to scrap it out. Usually resulting in 0 stars going both ways, even if the buyer has done nothing wrong.

im getting really pissed off with vinted.

recently the site is full of scammers setting up for 24 hours. They sell designer stuff for odd low figures, like £3.68, and only
accept card payments. If you’re foolish enough to buy something, by morning they’re gone. Vinted policy states ‘WE do not take responsibility for scammers’! So again Vinted to fuck all.

also, you can’t sell period related products like new period pants as these are classed as ‘extreme items’. 50% of the population need period products but vinted think it’s extreme. What kind of messed up patriarchal BS is that?

I don't buy from sellers with no reviews or just a few cosmetic products, I assume they stole them!

Buyer beware, though.

I’ve added two images of examples that have just popped up now. Honestly I don’t understand how they’re making money. But there are literally hundreds of listings like this at the moment.

They’re fake or stolen?

DarkForces · 23/12/2024 00:32

I'll never use Vinted again after getting death threats towards dd for asking for a refund for a fake item sold as real. I got my money back but police refused to take action as they don't do ID checks and the seller used fake details. It was a horrible experience

Gambino1726 · 23/12/2024 08:39

Ok. I think I have been scammed! Purchased a box of body creams. Buyer said she sent it and posted a screen shot of the postage receipt - but now the buyer has disappeared. The actual user doesn’t exist anymore.

I’ve checked the address of where they said they sent it from and I get this scammer warning. What utter C you N T S

But Vinted don't accept a "screenshot of the postage receipt" as proof it's been posted.

The shipping is integrated and so is the tracking. Is there not a "track your item" link in the message thread with the seller? If not then just report to Vinted and you'll get your money back.

Mumofoneandone · 23/12/2024 08:47

Not impressed with Vinted either - fine when everything works but rubbish when there's an issue.
Always pay by CC, so have some redress there if needed.

Bloodybrambles · 23/12/2024 08:52

My pet peeve is the amount of people list things as ‘very good’ then in the description the might admit to bobbling/fading. If an item is bobbled it should be cut up into cleaning cloths, not sold on! The amount of baby clothes I got for DD that I wouldn’t feel appropriate donating for charity.

@Bloodybrambles ive just received the most disgusting very good “rag” from vinted. The seller said she listed it as very good because it’s a “very good brand”. Sleeves stained, zipper rusty, unwearable.

she’s also refused to pay for the return as it was only a tenner. Ffs - it’s not my mistake! The integrity of some sellers is awful.

@HollopingHooligans i don’t know what vinted do. What I can tell you is that I bought an item, the seller sent an image of the post receipt, the money is gone (product, buyer protection and postage), and I don’t have any communication or item. Reported the seller and vinted send automated response saying ‘if you have been a victim of fraud we do not accept responsibility’. What is the sense in that?

OP posts:
HollopingHooligans · 23/12/2024 11:27

So when you go into your orders on Vinted and select this order, what do you see? Post a screenshot and maybe someone can advise further.

FlySwimmer · 23/12/2024 11:41

Are you sure about period products OP? I bought some new-with-tags Modibodi briefs via Vinted. Maybe they weren’t listed as period pants though, I’d have to check…

Also to the PP complaining about bobbling, if an item just has some v light bobbling under the arms say, I don’t see an issue with that? Practically all clothing will bobble a little, some after just a few wears, and especially in high-friction areas like under the arms, inner leg seams etc. Of course, the degree of it will matter. But to say we should we all be cutting up bobbled clothes for rags, we’d be cutting up our perfectly wearable clothes after just a few wears in many cases?!

Where is that from? With vinted you just get a notification from vinted it’s been sent. So as far as vinted are aware they haven’t posted it and therefore shouldn’t receive any money.

How did you buy the item?

Please don’t tell me you clicked some kind of link the seller sent you.

This is what I think has happened. Sending a picture of a postage receipt isn't a thing on Vinted - the dispatch notification and tracking is automatic because shipping is integrated. You even get notified when the seller downloads the shipping label!

So along with the OP's insistence that the seller had set up a card payment method, I'm thinking perhaps this wasn't actually a Vinted purchase at all!?

I think so.

Sellers don’t set up card payments! And you don’t need to upload postage (although if I’ve occasionally sent by Royal Mail I have but only to be nice. )

Also when I first downloaded vinted I got some weird message off what was obviously a scammer with a link to a website that was a blatant copy of the real vinted page. Trying to get me to buy something from then by offering to buy something off me. It was weird. I reckon it’s like that.

Show us a screen shot of the order. It will be in the messages about the item.
I don’t think you’ve bought it through vinted.

strugglinguphill · 23/12/2024 13:19

Yes, it's utter bs. I purchased a jumper, wasn't as described. Was told to pay for return postage which I wouldn't get back to receive a £10 refund! Bloody ridiculous. Won't be buying on there anymore

Christ - yes vinted! As a seller you can click a ‘mark as posted’ even if you haven’t.

Honestly. Some of you think I’m dumb as shit. Here is the screen shot of the ‘proof of postage’. Buyer is gone. And / or blocked me.

DaveWatts · 23/12/2024 13:47

If you choose royal mail as a postage method it's not integrated - you have to mark it as posted as a seller. But I don't understand how the money could disappear because you have to mark it as received as the buyer, and then press the 'everything is ok' button. But this does time out after a couple of days so if you have a problem you have to report it promptly.

I have also noticed all the fake listings - they are always there early in the morning, with stacks of listings for eg Russell & Bromley shoes for some random amount like £8.66. They're obviously ripped off other listings. I did wonder how they were making money but maybe they signpost buyers to an external payment site?

TheGriffle · 23/12/2024 13:58

You just need to wait for the delivery time to go past and report an issue to Vinted.

Noodlehen · 23/12/2024 14:00

Wait the 2-5 days then mark as not received and you’ll get your money back. It’s pretty simple.

Back21970 · 23/12/2024 14:06

I wouldn’t buy from someone who had no reviews - too risky in my opinion.

Agree that Vinted is very hit and miss, I’ve had some great bargains, but generally stick to brands I know with regard to sizing.

Ebay definitely better for buyer protection.

Gambino1726 · 23/12/2024 14:14

TrollTheAncientYuletideCarol · 23/12/2024 00:19

I'm puzzled by your complaints, OP. You don't pay by direct debit the seller on Vinted, they give you postage options like Post Office, InPost collect, delivery.

Then please explain how there are so many scammers? They must be making money some how or they wouldn’t be there.

OP posts:
skyeisthelimit · 23/12/2024 14:19

This is a well known scam on vinted, as soon as the item is sold, they instantly put up a postage receipt. It's obviously fake because they couldn't possibly do it so quickly.

vinted should refund you though if you bought via vinted. There isn't any way to pay the seller direct on vinted unless you clicked on some outside link. Everything goes via vinted. Just look at their T & C, it's all explained on there.

you will get the money back when you can report it as not arrived.
