Go wireless charging if your phone has it think from iPhone 8 up

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 22/11/2024 10:39

I was going to suggest Anker. How on earth are you breaking them?

NewDaye · 22/11/2024 10:41

I don’t understand this - just get the official Apple ones especially as they come braided now.

Charging cables don’t just break - that is caused by improper use! If someone is using the phone whilst it’s being charged and holding it at awkward angles for example. So you might need to properly think about why you keep breaking cables?

You might need to:

  • be more careful with how you’re using it as it basically boils down to what you’re doing with the phone whilst it’s being charged to strain the cable.
  • get a longer length cable (these are more expensive)
  • switch to a different method of charging like wireless charging
  • invest in fast charging where you buy a more expensive power brick, which will charge your phone significantly quicker and therefore means you can unplug your phone when you need to use it.

Ime they all break.

I just buy lots on Amazon at once.

The braided ones break less frequently.

Aparecium · 22/11/2024 10:55

Juice. I have found them extremely reliable.

Get a wireless charging pad which can fit multiple phones, this has the added advantage of making them all put their phones down for a while while charging...

ErrolTheDragon · 22/11/2024 10:57

Our apple ones seem robust, the longer ones are Belkin (Ithink the only non apple brand sold in the Apple Store) seem fine too.

BertieBotts · 22/11/2024 11:17

Yeah agree you need a charger dock or wireless charger thing rather than plugging in and out and bending the cable all over the place.

Igmum · 22/11/2024 11:23

Nothing is perfect and nothing lasts forever. The cheaper ones seem to expire faster. The pricey Apple braided ones last longer but yes, your issue is four kids, my mind boggles at how much you must be spending. I veer between getting loads of the cheap ones and getting some small numbers of the Apple originals. Good luck OP.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 22/11/2024 11:46

I buy Amazon Basics cables and yell at my DC to unplug using the solid bit not by yanking at the cable. I agree with Igmum that the braided ones last better than the smooth ones.

Gritin USB C

Even the cat chews them and they’re fine!

This might sound obvious but how are they using them? You might need to show them how to use one and put the onus on them to look after it instead of just replacing the chargers…otherwise you’ll go broke!

There’s not actually a defect with these chargers, any cable couldn’t sustain being yanked or bended awkwardly for example. It can cause the wire to fray/disconnect.

I think the best thing for your household are wireless chargers. It should last longer.

NewDaye · 22/11/2024 14:26

Also just to add, I have owned apple products since I was a child myself. None of my cables have issues now but admittedly my teen iPhones did get through a lot of chargers! I used to hold my phone at a weird angle to watch videos etc whilst in bed as it was plugged into the charger. I was essentially folding the cable at a 90 degree angle at times, especially as the plug socket wasn’t that close. Can totally see something like that happening here.

I've ordered some Juice ones on Amazon upon the recommendation, arriving tomorrow. Wish me luck!

I have tried many & at present have juice one thinking nice & stiff but they still manage to break as there is no give in them. Someone come up with an idea that lets the lead bend or twist a littlle at the phone end like a ball joint.

I know this is an old post but I was searching to see if anyone had any good tips for good charging cables!

Areyour Juice ones still going strong??

Thetreeisdownnow · 17/03/2026 22:22

The best ones I have ever found are from Asda and are sort of metal cased. They are the only ones that have kept going for years as all the others stop working after a while.

OhDear111 · 17/03/2026 23:02

Gritin or Belkin braided cables. Both are good.
