New mobile phone - can I keep my old number?

I'm a bit of a technophobe, so bear with me.

Have just ordered a new phone - from Tesco, which is the network my current one uses. Is is possible to keep the same number - can I just pop the SIM card from the old one into the new one? (Both Nokia phones, but obv new one more modern).

I'm confused about Tesco's different PAYG rates - I just want the standard one which I am already using! Presumably, swapping the SIM over would mean my rates were unaffected (I get half price calls/texts to my 3 fave numbers).

Could it all be this simple?
TIA

think so ..... give it a go and find out - are they both PAYG?

It should be fine if it's the same company -DD's best friend gave her a simn card with a lot of free texts for her 13th birthday & she's still using it 5 years later despite having several phones in the meantime. In fact it's not actually physically the same card, as her phone was stolen once, but the phone company gave her the same number & text/call deal as before.

So yes it should be fine.

Thank you!

Yes, they are both Pay as you go phones from Tesco... so it looks promising.
