I'm doing this at the moment - I need a 3 ft by 5 ft 6 inch. I called Dreams and there is a good quality spung mattress that can be ordered in any size, but they add 10% to the price for each 2 inches or something. Anyway, they said it would be ablout 165 pounds. I also looked in my local yellow pages (in SE London) and found a local mattress store who said it would be about 100 pounds - so I am going there at the weekend to check bounceability and order it. Let me know if you find any other national chains?

what about good quality cut-to-size foam?

Yes, spacedonkey, cut-to-size foam works: I had it for my irregular shaped bunkbed. Just a local foam shop who do children's mattresses as well. (Think I paid about £70 for the two.)

Its in Beckenham and its on Croydon Road - Mattress World (sad but true!!!). I'm going to go on Saturday sometime, if I have time. At the moment, poor lad has a cot bed mattress stuffed out with sleeping bags. These mattresses were sprung ones...
