Hotpoint Aqualtis AQGD169S
This is the largest capacity model within the Aqualtis range. It gives excellent cleaning results at 30 degrees and the cotton wash performs well too. Rinsing is poor, though.
Most of the machines we tested failed to rinse away enough of the detergent, but this one is even worse than most and has a very poor rinse function, and some users with sensitive skin may find the residual detergent a problem.
The Aqualtis AQGD169S has a large 8kg drum, so you'll be able to wash plenty of laundry in one go ? even duvets. Wash times are good, and the easy care wash is really quick, washing a 4kg load in an hour and 10 minutes.
Running costs are good, but these only apply if you can fill the drum to capacity - small households may not generate enough laundry to fill a drum this big.
Despite having a powerful 1600rpm spin, this machine is surprisingly quiet
Our member survey shows Hotpoint washing machines have poor brand reliability.
Pros: Large 8kg drum capacity, excellent low temperature washing, washes quickly, quiet
Cons: Poor brand reliability, poor rinsing
Hotpoint Aqualtis AQXXL129
This model has a large 7.5kg drum capacity and although this model can?t match our Best Buys, washing performance is reasonable. However, Hotpoint has poor brand reliability in our annual survey.
The cotton and easy care programs are decent, and washing at 30 degrees gives good results. Rinsing is poor, but if you have sensitive skin you can always use the extra rinse option. Wash times per kilo are very quick and you can get a full load done in 2 hours 3 minutes.
The Aqualtis AQXXL129 has a large, distinctive metallic door which opens like a book ? with the detergent drawer concealed behind it to produce a clean, smooth feel. The door is hinged on the right side of the machine and this means it takes a little more space to open.
For anything other than light soils, Hotpoint has told us it?s better to use the whites program and reduce the temperature to 40 degrees rather then opting for the coloured cycle.
If you have room, you can buy an integrated drawer pedestal for the machine to stand on ? as well as providing useful storage space, this raises the machine so you won't have to bend so far when loading and unloading.
Other plus points include a child proof lock for the control panel to stop little fingers changing the settings when your back?s turned, LED lights to indicate your washing?s progress, and a delayed start option. This machine is reasonably quiet.
Pros: Child proof lock, wash progress indicator, quiet
Cons: Poor brand reliability, poor rinsing
