We are in the park at least once a day (with the dog) and now the weather's gone cold, we need one of those snowsuit things to keep our 1 year old dd warm. I am allergic to all shades of pink or pastels, especially as they will get dirty in a matter of minutes. I need something that is hardwearing (she is about to walk), preferably with mittens attached and definitely without ears. If possible NOT blue as she already gets mistaken for a boy 3 times a day as it is (my fault, with my pink allergy). Is this too much to ask? Am I being too fussy? Anyone out there with any ideas?

How about bright red?

I just happen to have the JoJoMamanBebe catalogue about my person ( keep meaning to order something. They have a fleece all-in-one with cuffs that can fold over the hands to keep them warm. The hood has little peak and no ears, and there are loops for attaching mitts if you want to. £32.99.

Or... an all-in-one rainsuit with extra clothes underneath? £19.99

Hmm... both of those seem rather pricey- bet you could get something similar elsewhere for less!

Yes, they used to send me their catalogue but have stopped, probably because I didn't order anything. I forgot about catalogues. I used to have a La Redoute one - should visit their website. And red is great.

I was happy last week whilst at a bootfair (trying to shift a few things before Xmas!) I found a lady selling 2-3 yr old clothes and I bought waterproof snowsuit - fleecy inside, dark colours with attached mittens (hardly been used) for £2. Perhaps looking around bootfairs, I know its time consuming, or perhaps even charity shops. If you find a decent one for a small price you may not worry so much about your little one spoiling it in the mud. OOh I love a bargain..!

You might find some ideas on "where can you buy waterproofs" thread for functional outdoor wear suppliers. If you can find them (ski shops might be a good bet - try George Fisher for example) we love the windproof fleece suits from "Fairground" - but expect them to be around £50!

Just doing a search and came across a review of snowsuits on the Babyworld website (done in winter 2000)The winner was the JoJoMamanBebe one which was £32 then and is still the same price now. Am sorely tempted tho is expensive... Anyone got any other ideas?

I love boot sales too, great place for getting toys. They only play with them for a few weeks and its 50p rather than a tenner. Not found any snowsuits there, though.

Have you tried Ebay?

lou33 · 17/10/2002 18:55

I've got mine in the past from Boots and H & M, all bright colours like orange and purple.

i got a nice navy one from john lewis...but they also did red, purple, orange etc...that was last year...not sure if they'll have them again...

I've just got the jomamanbebe waterproof all in one suit and can't believe I didn't have one last year. It's been pretty wet for the last few days but I stick my (2 year old) daughter in hers with wellies on. You have the elastic you can tuck under her boots and off we go. She has been splashing/wading in puddles all week and actually seems to prefer this weather to boring sunshine and she has been completely dry when I yank her back out. It is, IMO, much better than a fleece which you would be washing every couple of days if it got covered in mud, you could just hose the waterproof one off or just let the mud dry on!! I would think about a waterproof.

We love all in ones - and the best we've found are
muddy puddles . They are often found in the bigger catalogues, but you can buy them direct, and it makes them cheaper. Love the Little Miss Puddles coat too...
