None of Screaminghabdab's post suprises DH!
That's why he drives a Volvo.
113k miles from new and all that has been changed is an alternator at 100k under extended warranty.

screaminghabdabs · 28/11/2007 22:50

We've driven less than 45k miles. Hurrumph!

I have an 04 1.9dci scenic and have had it for about 2 years.

Honestly?? I love it!

We had a problem where the electric window came of the rails which was fixed by Renault the next day (was still under warranty) and other than that it has been a dream.

I have 3 children and therefore 3 car seats and we all fit in fairly comfortably (including a big pram in the boot).

I wouldn't change mine.

Seat is fully adjustable - forward, back, up and down, so should be absolutely fine

Just had to get a new "key" for our scenic as the spare one will not work any more and it cost me £89!!!

nobodysfool · 29/11/2007 11:11

ouch thats expensive was it gold plated for that money?!

OP posts:
MrsLynetteScavo · 29/11/2007 14:24

£89 is cheap. Try replacing Audi or Alpha Romeokeys. DD microwaved DH's keys for his Alpha, and the replacement was about £200!

nobodysfool · 29/11/2007 18:14

OMG thats terrible.£89 sounds fine now you have said that.

We've had both an RX4 2.0 and a 1.6 - both 2001. I loved the RX4, felt invincible, but they are much more expensive for what they are than regular model. Clutch went on rX4 after 30k miles and had odd electrical problem (driver's window stuck down just as we took it to garage to sell ). 1.6 has had ignition coil problems (quite a common issue) and we had to have timing belt changed this summer which was overdue so check that has been done before you buy one 5yrs + old as it wasn't cheap to do.

Thanks for the warning sounds like shed loads of repairs to me.I have got a 1998 Fiesta ghia and have never had to do anything major to it.Shame im putting it on the market to sell soon.

I have always had VW Polos and got a 2001 plate Scenic in Feb this year as I am expecting no. 2.

It has cost me a lot in the last 6 months.

3 ignition coils have gone - cost £300. The A/c wasn't blowing - new pollen filter, I have a coolant leak that I have not yet fixed and to top it all this week the button that you press to open the boot is broken and falls out - I have to keep the button in car and put it in when I want to open the boot. It will be another £70 to replace that.

I do like the roominess and it is good value for money but Renault are notorious for things breaking an being unreliable, all of which I knew when I bought it and decided to go for it anyway as you get a lot of car for the money, it has a good safety rating and has things like abs like standard. I discounted all cars that didn't get a 4 star safety rating.

This is a second car for us and I wouldn't have it as my main car. It doesn't feel too stable at speed - you know if you are doing over 70 and it does catch the wind as all MPV do.

If you do decided to go for it make sure you get a high spec model. You don't have to pay much more second hand to get the full works (ac, cd etc)

I have an 05 grand scenic in black

nobodysfool · 01/12/2007 19:25

Sounds like you have had a lot of hassle with yours. Thanks for your side of things knowing all that would you buy another one.Do the bad points outweigh the good?
