I need a new car, 3 kids 2 dogs and a not-enormous budget!!

I'm looking at two I've found in a local garage with a good rep - any thoughts on which you'd pick?

One is a hyundai i40. 65k miles, 65 plate. Top spec.
The other is a Peugeot 308 estate, GT line spec. 16 plate. 65k miles.

Any thoughts on what you'd pick?

Neither with those milage however out of the two hyundai, had several and never had had a problem, my parents had a Peugeot nothing but problems they both have had hyundais for many years now.

Both diesel cars @Goodtohear so I'm not so worried about the mileage. Our current car did 150k miles no issue.

Also very tight on budget so that seems to be the standard mileage - spec doesn't seem to add much to the price. Theres one of a lower spec with 55k miles for same price. Or older but with 52k miles - but then you have the DPF concerns...

Seems hyundai gets a consensus though!

I wouldn't be too fussed either way. Peugeot makes excellent diesel engines, but then so does Hyundai.

The Hyundai will probably be more spacious, as it's from the next class up. (Not much bigger though, the 308 SW always had a reputation for having a lot of luggage space.)

I seem to remember early i40 models had an issue for a while more of a nuisance thing really with seven-digit UK postcodes not working on the built-in satnav (because the entry field only had space for six characters, if that makes sense).

I'd look at the servicing and maintenance history of both, and pick the one that's clearly been looked after the best -- servicing done on time, a quality-make tyre on each corner, belts changed when necessary, good MOT history etc.

Peugeot will be nicer to drive. Hyundai likely to be more reliable.
