Recommendations for a good memory foam mattress other than Tempur?? Please!

Yay, DH has agreed that we should get a new mattress as current one is 9yrs old and my back hasn't been right since I had DS 8mths ago, so we've decided to upgrade to a superkingsize and probably get a memory foam mattress.

Any recommendations apart from Tempur (because they're SO expensive - overpriced? - and because I've heard you can get a bit too "locked in" to them & can't move in the night?)

Can't find a shop which stocks a good range to test side by side.

Considering a Sealy Mirrorform (because Backinaction website says it's better than the Tempur) or Healthbeds memoryflex (Which? best buy) or John Lewis Impressions (because I just rate JLewis products!)

Any recommendations? Can spend up to £1000 on a superking.

Thanks in anticipation xx

We have a superking bed with memory foam from Ikea, very comfortable and no where near £1000

Thanks TSAP - do you know the name of the mattress so I can look it up on website?

It was a sultan one, I can't remember now whether it was foam or latex with a foam topper.

we have a myer matress. Its half sprung and half memory foam and very comfy. I think our king size matress was about £350.

Thanks both, will look into both of those recommendations

John Lewis Impressions - totally fabulous!

amazonianwoman · 18/11/2007 20:48

Thanks bagpuss

You don't find you get too hot do you? When you bought it did you compare it with any other memory foam mattresses? How long have you had it and has it sagged or lost its springiness or anything?

Sorry for so many Qs! It's just such a big new purchase

We also have furudal (something like that!) Ikea king size which has memory foam in it, it is gorgeous sooooooooo comfy and cost about £200 or £300 (can't quite remember but much much cheaper than tempur!)

amazonianwoman · 18/11/2007 21:01

Thanks melly, I think a trip to Ikea is in order this week...

Go for it and enjoy! We got ours in April and it has been blissful, one thing to check on though is if the mattress will fit your current bed base as ikea measurements vary slightly. We got a new bed base as well and stocked up on ikea sheets which fit perfectly!!

mellymooks · 18/11/2007 21:11

Their "King size" is wider than standard king size, which is great cause you get extra room, sometimes we loose each other it's so big and my partner is 6ft4!!! Has been great while I've been preggers as been able to have tons of pillows round me but still plenty room for partner.

amazonianwoman · 18/11/2007 21:50

Thanks again

Looking for a new bed too - we're upgrading from kingsize to superkingsize

That's good then ikea got some lovely beds and mattresses so you should be spoilt for choice! Good luck and happy shopping (and sleeping!)

amazonianwoman · 19/11/2007 11:03

Thanks

Sleeping would also be greatly improved if it weren't for DS 8mths being awake most of the night with awful cough/cold

I got ours from ebay and it was £250 - wonderful too, just as good as a Tempur I think.

amazonianwoman · 19/11/2007 11:23

Thanks Wisteria - do you know which seller?

furnishings direct

They do some lovely beds too but we didn't buy one!

bagpuss · 19/11/2007 12:04

AW, the JL one feels a bit warm to begin with yes, but I am used to it now and planning to purchase some matching pillows soon. Didn't compare it to any others but I don't think it has sagged. It is non turn which I like too. When I tried it in the shop it was a real ahhhhhh moment . One of our better large purchases I think.

pamplemousse · 19/11/2007 12:06

We have a Relaxan Waterlattex mattress, its lovely! A superking is £419 from these people www.eurobed.co.uk/relaxsan/relaxsan-waterlattex.php
Good luck

amazonianwoman · 19/11/2007 13:33

Thanks wisteria - was looking at that seller for the bed

Bagpuss - thanks for that I've had a memory foam pillow for ages, I even take it away with me - I think getting pillows will complete your whole aaahhhh experience

Cheers pamplemousse - will look into that suggestion!
