BMW X1 or BMW series 2 active tourer - anyone successful with 3 child seats?!

Hello.

We have our 3rd baby due in Sept and currently have 2 children in car seats which are due to be changed for booster seats.

Has anyone successfully managed to fit 3 child seats in the back seat? Reviews and opinions online are conflicting and we need to make a decision on a car soon.

Or can anyone else suggest an alternative that’s not the typical MPV etc?

Thanks x

I’ve got the gran tourer at the moment which is the same in the back as the active tourer. I’m sure you’d easily get three car seats in the back. I test drove the x1 today. It seems much smaller on the back. The middle seat seems much smaller and a lot less leg room. I don’t have small children though so ordered it 😁

Doubt the X1 would manage it. We had to change ours when DS2 was days old as we couldn't fit his pram in the boot and there was no room in the back for the bassinet when the 2 car seats were in. It was fine for DS1 as he was in the buggy part of the travel system which took up less room but the bloody bassinet for the baby stage was a whole other story!

I have an X1 and although i don’t have small kids or child seats the middle seat is tiny and no leg room

The drive is nice mines the 2ltr Sport Automatic it’s I think it’s 200 bhp so fast but comfortable and as a women I find it to be just about the right size for me .
The boot has a hidden compartment underneath it which i love as I can fit loads of stuff under there and it’s hidden away so if you need to put your handbag or something expensive in the car you can hide it there safely

I can fit 2 ultra light Tripp large suitcases in the boot - to give you and idea of the boot size but nothing else and there is no wiggle room 😂

My husband had a VW Tiguan and they are huge, loads of Space and huge boot as well . Lots of extras even on the standard model .
He also had a Volvo XC60 which was I think slightly smaller than the Tiguan in boot space but higher but we found we could easily fit 2-3 people in the back comfortably
The X1 is a nice SUV and I love mine as it’s diesel but for 3 babies or even three small kids I would say it’s just a bit two small

Grinch48 · 29/07/2021 21:29

Meant to say the middle seat is really only good for small kids as there is a bit on the floor which is part of the consul so you can’t put your legs on the floor in the middle seat so only really good for toddlers or small children who don’t need the legroom

Fast!? A 2litre diesel X1 isn’t fast!

Grinch48 · 06/08/2021 17:19

@Shade17 - it’s fast for me - acceleration is excellent for an automatic
I drive a lot on motorways so I want good acceleration to overtake and I find that mine has exactly that

Shade17 · 07/08/2021 13:39

All that means is that you’ve never been in something fast. As for being fast for an auto, most modern autos are quicker than the equivalent manual version. But no, your X1 isn’t fast in any way.

Grinch48 · 07/08/2021 17:47

Well it’s fast enough and powerful enough for what I need it for

Shade17 · 07/08/2021 18:10

Yes, and that’s obviously fine

dozyman · 08/08/2021 11:50

Speaking as a bloke who is actually unable to drive, can I (albeit somewhat pedantically) come to the defence of @Grinch48 ?

The term "fast" is pretty meaningless unless you define what you mean by it. In other words, fast compared with what?

@Shade17 says "... your X1 isn't fast in any way". This is not true. There is one very important way in which it is fast: at 200bhp it is self-evidently fast compared with the majority (granted, not all) of cars on the road.

Alternatively many would say that it is fast compared with what you actually need to drive safely and legally on our roads today.

The point I am trying to make is that @Grinch48 's definition of fast is a perfectly rational and reasonable definition of the term.

@dozyman
I have no idea what Shade17 problem is but they obviously took offence at what I wrote when I was simply giving my opinion on a car that I drive .

So thank you - thats exactly what I meant - probably didn’t write in the way that Shade17 could understand

200bhp in a 2 litre engine is fast like you said - and it’s fast enough for me with good acceleration which I want . - obviously it’s not a super fast car like a Porsche or Ferrari but I didn’t say it was.

And exactly what you wrote it’s fast in terms of what’s legally allowed on the rd

I did a race track package on holiday with my DH a few years ago and we both drove a Ferrari Audi RS and I think the TVR
They were all exceptionally fast cars but you can’t really drive them to the top speed and cars ability on the M5 😂

Shade17 · 09/08/2021 10:32

It really isn’t. I wouldn’t describe the acceleration as woeful but it’s not quick in the slightest.

BungleandGeorge · 09/08/2021 22:40

Presuming you have the baby seat as you’re due soon just take them to a dealer with that model in the showroom and try them in the car!

BungleandGeorge · 09/08/2021 22:43

200bhp is faster than the vast majority of other cars on the road, I don’t see the problem in describing it as fast! Of course there are other cars which will be faster

Shade17 · 10/08/2021 12:18

It’s 188bhp actually, and a 2 litre diesel MPV is not faster than the vast majority of other cars on the road. Hilarious!

I’m not sure why you have a bee in your bonnet about this person’s car? However I think it’s very fair of her to call it fast when it’s approximately 200bhp, 7.6 seconds 0-62. Anyone who drives knows that’s considerably faster than the average car on the road..
