So would you recommend a playstation 2/3, a Wii or an Xbox for a 4 year old & 8 year old??

Go for the Wii.
Its great fun for all ages, including you!

JARM · 09/11/2007 14:36

If I honestly had to choose, it would be a Wii but Im a harsh mummy who wont let her DH have a console, let alone kids!

mrsflowerpot · 09/11/2007 14:36

Wii if you can get your hands on one.

coppertop · 09/11/2007 14:38

My two love their PS2 but would be thrilled with a Wii. Personally I wouldn't bother with a PS3. Very expensive IMHO.

SlightlyMadStuffing · 09/11/2007 14:38

I would be tempted by the PS2 TBH.

Based on value to get out of it. The Wii is apparently v v good, but v v expensive. The PS2 may be better value...

coppertop · 09/11/2007 14:40

There are also lots of cheap PS2 games for children of that age.

Piffle · 09/11/2007 14:42

Wii, super for younger ones

NatalieJane · 09/11/2007 14:42

The Wii is ace, great games, more aimed at younger kids, everyone can have a go.

With my mummy hat on, it actually is quite good for a bit of exercise as well, I know my heart races and my arms and legs kill me the next day!

alfielooloo · 09/11/2007 14:44

3 votes each then!
I know the PS2 is cheaper, but it has been out for ages, I have never played on any of the above so don't know the first thing about any of them, but are they not out of date? Do they still make new games for them then? & can you play the PS2 games on PS3 too?

If you play a PS (any of them) and then play the Wii, you wouldn't even be asking the question, you'd be hunting the elusive Wii round the UK!!

HappyFeet06 · 09/11/2007 15:05

We have a ps3, wii and an xbox 360, (I know, I know!).

Anyway, hubby plays on the 360, ds who is 10 plays on all 3 but in order of played with most it would be 360, wii and then ps3. DD who is 4 only 'tries' to play on the Wii but thinks its great fun.

Personally I only play on the Wii and it is a great family console compared to the others. We also play on the Wii when we have friends round, usually competitive brain academy, lol!!!

InspectorWotz · 09/11/2007 15:10

HappyFeet06

Is the order of your preference on the ease of the hardwear or because the games you can play on each?

Not got any and I am considering this year to get something for all of us.

3madboys · 09/11/2007 15:26

my eldest to are 5 and 8, they have a ps2 and there are some good games available fairly cheaply.

we have looked at getting a wii, cos i want one however they seem to work out quite expensive esp if you need to get extra controllers, numchuks etc and also the games are more expensive. hth

inthepink · 09/11/2007 15:29

we have a ps2 and ds 6 loves playing the buzz games (monkey jungle, sports quiz and music quiz - he usually just pushes any answer and more often than not gets the right answer he loves it because we all play it!!) however I am going to buy wii for dh and ds for christmas as the others have said it is great fun and we might get some excercise too!!

mil is also going to get wii for fil

dooneygirl · 09/11/2007 15:46

Wii is a great family console. We let the kids play on it a couple times a week, and we all play and it is a blast. DS is 4 and he can beat his dad and I at bowling on a very regular basis. The games are more expensive, but some of them are just as cheap as Playstation games (at least here in the U. S.) and you can get the Wii Play game that has an extra controller in it for the price of a game. We haven't even bothered getting another game for it yet, because we're pretty happy with Wii Sports and Wii play. We only have 1 extra controller, and don't need another nunchuck.

HappyFeet06 · 09/11/2007 15:52

InspectorWotz. It is in order of how much ds plays on each!

The ps3 is the least played with. We don't have many ps3 games yet but ds plays his ps2 games on it. We have been waiting ages for singstar to come out but it keeps being delayed. Dh and Ds tend to play racing games, combat games on the xbox 360. Dh uses Xbox live to play games with other xbox owners online. The Wii seems to be good for all the family and has loads of games to choose from. The xbox also seems to have a good choice. Ps3 is catching up but is more expensive.

You do need to buy extra controllers etc... for the Wii but well worth it I think. I am not much of a games console person but would happily play on the Wii. I don't go near the xbox 360 or the PS3!!

alfielooloo · 09/11/2007 16:21

Wow, loads to take in there, thanks everyone, the Wii wins I think. Does it come with everything that you need then & you just buy an extra controller for two people to play at once?? And what is a nunchunk??

Now all I have to do is find one

Hulababy · 09/11/2007 16:26

I'd say a Wii too. My 5yo DD loves it.

You might be lucky restock. Man in Game was telling me today that loads of places have just recieved Wii stock this lunch time. Apparently they are really busy trying to get them storted ready for sale.

So if looking for a Wii, look now!

alfielooloo · 09/11/2007 16:34

am on the case, wish me luck

Wii bad for health.. In Germany wii technology is treated with great skepticism (spelling?) Our school decided not to have wireless stuff because of this.

InspectorWotz · 09/11/2007 16:50

dh says ps3 is the only way to go all the others are just game stations!

I need to go to geeky section I think.

pagwatch · 09/11/2007 16:52

My DS1 has had various formats ( he is 14 now) and I hate all that games stuff BUT I LOVE the wii ... much to my surprise and irritation it is great
