Ford ka with a family of 4?

Looking at getting a new car. I have the option of having a very nice Ford ka for a very low price from family member. I love the car it's all I wanted, very low mileage, fsh it's been looked after and maintained well. (the price is fab) However I am concerned it may not be big enough for all 4 of us when we are in it. Rare but as my husbands vehicle currently is a van (3 seats) until he changes this at the end of the year. The ka will be our family car for two adults a 9 year old and 15 year old who is already 5ft5. I am worried I will have it and have the rest of the year of moaning about being squashed Grin does anyone else use one as a family car? I had a vw up a few years ago and I loved it. I managed fine with this with a car seat and pram. Even went on holidays in it. However my children have gotten alot taller since then. Shall I just buy a bigger car. My budget isn't huge and to be honest I can't get alot for my money. Everything I am looking at is a good 10 year old with atleast 90 k on it. What to do?

I think it would be fine, I had a 3 door ka for years and even with 4 adults it drove and handled fine on the motorway. I currently have a Ka+ so have 4 doors and a bit more room. Love it.

Borrow it before you buy?

Big no from me though, a family car needs five doors and a decent boot IMO

I would get it. Even if your children and/or husband took the train sometimes and you used a hire car for the odd holiday it would still be the cheaper and best option IMO.

I had the very old KA and it was ok when the kids were young. Then went up to the next KA, still only 3 door. Now I have a KA+ lot better and bigger.

A friend worked on the air ambulance as a medic and was often sent to road traffic accidents. She said some of the worst were in Ford kas. They’re so flimsy and insubstantial.

If it's just short trips, i will be fine.
You know the car's history.

I had an older version Ka, and LOVED it- for me. It was fine when it was me and a pre-teen DD, when I added DP in the mix it felt a lot smaller. You can fit the 4 of you in, but bear in mind the boot is tiny too, so if you want to go out for the day you can only fit in what you can fit in there, no chance of putting something around legs or in the backseat. And if both your DP and DS are tell, it's not very comfy to sit in- the legroom in the passenger side means it basically has to be fully reversed, which means whoever is behind has to sit on a bit of an angle.

That said, it's a bargain for you, will be dirt cheap to insure, and they drive like a little go kart 😁

Dd drives a Fiesta and 14yo ds (5 foot 9 and growing) is uncomfortable in the back.

Get a Skoda Fabia instead

I had a Ford Ka and it was awful, by far the worst car I've ever owned. Definitely try and get something with 4 doors if you're going to have people in the back regularly, it's a nightmare with only 2 doors.
