Is it possible to grab decent stills from a digital camcorder?

Want Need! new camera and cant decide wether to get camera with video mode, or camcorder that I can take stills with.

If I could get a digital camcorder that I could grab good images off, I would get it, as Im sure I could get far more decent pics than I get now! No idea how it all works tho - Maybe its the editing software that makes the difference????

They are pretty good. You can take snaps as well as video.

I looked into this a year or so ago and was told then that the images taken from video footage wouldn't be very high res so would not be suitable for getting great photos. So we got a camera that we could use to take short videos instead. HTH
