Kindle for child...own account or add to mine?

I'm probably buying dc a kindle for christmas and I'm unsure what the best option is.
Make a new amazon account or link it to mine?
I've read about a family option but have no clue how it works really.

I'm also in 2 minds about what kindle to buy. Do I go for the kids bundle or just get a standard kindle?
The kids bundle has a year of kids books for free but I can't find a list of what's available to check if it's worth it...

So many questions! Buying a kindle shouldn't be this confusing. I've owned one for 8 years!

It’s really easy to link it to your account - I’ve done this for my two dc. One already has a kindle but the other is getting one for Christmas. I got the kindle on its own without the kids bundle, mostly based on my experience with kindle unlimited which never had any of the books I wanted to read included.

Our Kindles are all linked on one account. It means I can read books that my DH and (adult) DD have bought.

@Iamanaubergine yes exactly. Kindle unlimited is pretty rubbish!
I also don't like that the only cover options are pink or blue.

Kindles are massively reduced on Amazon right now (about 40% I think) so I really appreciate the quick replies.

Thanks guys!

@Iamanaubergine I have another question if you dont mind (sorry!)

Do your dc have the paperwhite or the basic kindle? The main difference is the screen resolution I think.

Mine is 300 ppi (old paperwhite) but the basic is 167ppi. I'm wondering how much of a difference it makes because the basic is only £50 at the moment but if it's not great to read on I'd rather pay more for a paperwhite.
Thanks again

One of them has the old style kindle which is fine. Obviously some books aren’t always great - some of the David Walliams books have dark pages which don’t display great but I’m not sure how they look on the paperwhite. The one we have bought for Christmas is the new style but unfortunately I can’t comment as haven’t opened it yet! I have the paperwhite which I love as I read in bed.
