Toys for 1 year old that likes opening jars

DC3's 1st birthday is coming up, and family are asking me for present ideas but I'm stuggling as we already have a lot. We have Duplo, Brio, cars to push around etc.

The only thing I can think of is that he absolutely loves opening lids - on spice jars, sealed ketchup bottles, basically anything he can raid from kitchen cupboards when they are temporarily unlocked. I can't give him empty spice jars to play with as they are glass. We have the Tomy Eggs but he's not interested. Any other ideas of toys that involve opening and shutting things?

What about the nesting dolls or toys, where everyone you open has another inside.

We bought DS a Melissa and Doug latches board. He also enjoys taking lids on and off.

I second the latches board. We also have a montessori playlab box that has hard cardboard pictures with plastic nuts and screws that you put through holes in the pictures and screw them on the other side - I'll try and find a link to it!

The latches board was an excellent suggestion @BendingSpoons thanks - it arrived yesterday. He can only do 1 of the doors so far but definitely loves opening and closing that one, and the others being harder means there's plenty for him to grow into. The other two are enjoying it too.

@Moo31 screws are a good suggestion - we have a wooden toolbox in the loft from DC1 with screws you can do up on the sides, I'll get DH to get it down.

You can get Indian style stainless steel toys. They usually come with a toy spice rack or a few jars he can pull off / screw or unscrew. Failing that you can buy him a metal spice rack.

Glad he likes it @Duckchick

I'm going to look up some of these other ideas for DS!
