Nissan Qashqai or Kia Sportage

Just that really! Looking for a new car - neither myself or dp not overly interested in cars but we have to have one! We have one ds9 and two small dogs and make regular long journeys for work, and regular days out at weekends. We have narrowed it down to the Qashqai or Sportage but can't decide which! Any help/advice greatly appreciated!

We've had two qasqauis and got them over the Kia as for the cost you get a lot more for your money with Nissan. I've now got an Audi A3 but I still miss the qashqui and we are currently looking at getting another one.

Good fuel consumption, reliable and for us they were great.

Chucking the new Skoda Karoq in the mix if you're buying new.....

maymai · 08/06/2018 19:29

Friends have bought the karoq after having Audi's and they liked it so much they both have one now!

MoreProsecco · 08/06/2018 19:31

I'm thinking of these as well, and have added a Seat Ateca in to the mix.....

I've got a kia (not sportage) and the 7 year warranty would swing it for me having just had a load of work done under warranty on my 5 year old car. I test drove a quashqai and the bigger engine had a lot more go - the small entry level engine had no puff in it. I think it really depends what you prefer. For me it's be looks/styling of the Nissan vs the price and warranty of the kia.

I have a Sportage and absolutely love it. It's great to drive.

pigpoglet · 08/06/2018 19:38

I have a sportage , we went for it over the Nissan because it's a much better spec for the price and better drive and much faster .
Also I drive the auto with pedals on the steering wheel ( who can be arsed a clutch !!) and the nissan only came in 1.2 .. m!!! My sporty is super fast for a big old Bertha !! 🤗🤗

Kia all the way Smile

Our qashquai was new last year and has had a LOT of technical issues. We’ve lost faith in it slightly but when it isn’t having technical faults it’s lovely to drive and cheaper to run than our other car

daimbars · 08/06/2018 19:57

Apparently parts for the Kia Sportage take ages to come. You could also look at the Vauxhall Mokka which is slightly cheaper but comes with great kit

Thank you so much for the replies! I'm going to read them with my partner! He test drove the Qashqai today and loved it but we don't want to go for the first one we see! Car shopping this weekend 😀😀

MY Kia garage are super efficient and I always get a car .

LadyB49 · 08/06/2018 20:06

We are in our third Quashqai, love them. It's my dh car and the main car. Dh when he changes soon is looking for another Quashqai.

Great space, brilliant boot space. Never had any trouble with any of them.

ReadytoTalk · 08/06/2018 21:34

Ask your kia dealership if they have access to the kia direct stock. When we were buying they had a lot of nearly new cars with very low mileage but as they're pre registered/ used we didn't pay the premium you pay on a brand new car. We ended up with a silver one which isn't the colour we would have chosen but we saved a lot of money by doing it this way.

the benefit of the Sportage over the Qashqai is -
warranty is longer and car is more reliable

the benefit of the Qashqai over the Sportage is -
big discounts available on the Qashqai due to it being British built and not suffering from weak exchange rate,
Qashqai parts and servicing cheaper and more widely supported
Qashqai slightly bigger in the rear seat area

Lots of deals on Qashqai via brokers

Love my qashqai, have had premium cars all my life until I had DS so had to settle for
Something cheaper but realiable. It drives suprisingly well. I would get another one!

Ours is 2016 and so far has had 2 new tyres (within a week of picking it up after approx 10000miles); a new clutch and a new battery - still only on approx 17,000 miles. Very disappointed in it and contemplating something else in the next few months.

CarDad · 11/06/2018 21:13

This is the problem with the Qashqai, now Nissan Europe are effectively owned by Renault, Nissan European products have become unreliable.

A petrol Qashqai should be more reliable than a diesel.
The 1.2 turbo petrol is a decent engine
