My 2 1/2 year old dd will start pre-school in September. She has never been to anything similar before and I thought I'd get her a couple of books to explain the idea. Does anyone know of any good ones?

Thanks.

We read Parrot goes to Playschool which is quite funny (well in a 2 and a half year old type way)! Also, the Spot book about going to school is quite simple (can't remember the name) where he does painting, has a story and doesn't want to go home!

I'm very envious - I haven't managed to get a place for ds (3 in Nov) anywhere and now it looks like I'll have to wait until Sep next year and hope he gets a place in the state school nursery where his sis is at school .

oh and if she likes Maisy there's always Maisy goes to playschool.

Tell her it's like Miss Hoolie's class in Balamory?

Tissy, good idea! Would still like a couple of books too though, thanks for all the suggestions foxinsocks, any more gratefully received!!

'Going to playgroup' by Catherine Anholt worked for us!

Clayhead · 15/06/2004 10:25

"when I go to nursery" can't remember the author. Story of reluctant attendee who is won round by sand, glue etc.

Miriam2 · 15/06/2004 10:27

That's it clayhead, thought they've changed the cover since my ds had it about 10 years ago! Really gentle story with lovely smiley teacher.

Clayhead · 15/06/2004 10:32

was this the cover you had Miriam2?

Thanks marialuisa

There is a great one about school by the Ahlburgs (sp?) excellent, cevers the while school year, very inclusive of race etc.

Clayhead · 15/06/2004 20:20

coddy, that's the only one I currently have! But what if the teacher isn't as fab as Miss Maypole? We're currently substituting dd's name in place of Janet...

usborne book of first experiences is brilliant. we used it for ds before nursery. it has a collection of different situations - going to the doctor, moving house, new baby etc. my ds is 4 1/2 and still loves reading it.

codswallop · 15/06/2004 21:14

yes clay! maypole is fab
have seen "f orst experiences" too
