Freddy and His Flying Fish / Elefun games -anyone got them?

My Mum bought the children Freddy and His Flying Fish game at Christmas.

Now it says in the instructions all the fish should fly out within about 90 secs but we're lucky if 2 come out in that time. Its boring waiting - its as if theres not enough power as they all seem to get stuck and won't fly up the tube. Batteries were brand new too.

Have we got a duff one? Or are they all this crap? Is Elefun any better as I see its a bit more price-wise?

Its a shame as DD and DS love it when it does momentarily work as it should.

dd1 loves her elefun game and the butterflies whoosh in under 30 secs.

sometimes get the odd one or two left in the bottom but theres still plenty whooshing about

BettySpaghetti · 13/01/2007 11:31

Thanks junkinmytrunk, that sounds like ours should be but instead we have them all stuck in the bottom of the tube.

I might take it back and swap it for Elefun rather than faff around only to have the same problem again if I get another F&HFF

We have elefun, and the butterflies come out fairly fast - not within 30 secs though, but then that would make it really hard to catch any! We chose Elefun rather than Freddy because it has 4 nets (I think Freddy only has 2) so we can all play.

Well I took it back to Woolies this afternoon. I think the Manager was a bit taken aback when he asked what was wrong with it and I just said "Its rubbish, it doesn't do what it says on the box" - he said "oh, erm...." and agreed I could swap it (and pay the difference) for Elefun.

I get the impression people don't take things back for purely being crap!

Lets hope Elefun is better (he had to order it in so I won't get it until later this week)

BettySpaghetti

I could have written your post myself

we had the fish one and it was exactly the same as yours, like there was no power

It was rubbish

I bought it after my dd's played with the ele one at a friends, but theres whoosed out in seconds lol

I then got the fish one as it was reduced in woolies to £7.99!

Took it back though and got the ele one which is fab. DD's love it

I took mine back, no receipt and about 2 months after I ahd bought it, she gave me cash back!!!!!

BettySpaghetti · 13/01/2007 20:07

Oh thank you anniebear -you've confirmed what I thought (that even if I swapped it for the same one it would be equally rubbish). I'm glad I paid extra and will be getting Elefun now.

Out of interest, what did you say when you took it back? and were they OK about it?

DD has been asking for Elefun for her birthday (not till September but she likes to be organised) I'm a bit concerned she'll be too old as she'll be 6. What age are all your LOs?
Plus we live in quite a windy area, is it suitable for outdoors in Summer or will the butterflies just fly off?
TIA

I got elefun for dd 6 and ds 3 for christmas and they love it so no dont think 6 is too old if thats what she wants. Think butterflies may get blown away outside though, they're just like little bits of tissue paper really

BettySpaghetti · 16/01/2007 11:28

My two are 7 and 2.5 and , for the brief spell that thr Freddy game worked they both loved it! In fact it wss DD (the 7yr old) who persuaded me to get Elefun as a replacement rather thean anything else.

Also agree the bits might fly away outdoors unless the air is very still.

I have got Elefun and it doesn't work well, you have to wait ages for the "butterflies" to come out. We used cheapo batteries in it though from the £1 shop so could be that. Dh is going to get duracell batteries today to see if that improves things if not it is going back to Argos.

Carameli · 16/01/2007 20:19

my brother bought dd(3yrs) Elefn and she loves it. The butterflies come out fairly fast. I think if they were any faster dd would never catch any in the nets at all.

I agree with someone else here its not really a good idea for using outside as the butterflies would just get blown away.
