Philips steam generator iron-AIBU to expect it to last more than 4 years.

Hi,
I have had the philips steam generator 8500 series for last 4 years. It worked perfectly for the best of 3 years and then problems started....spitting water out and finally intermittent steam which had a mind of its own.

Spoke to customer services and after inspecting they said that the PCB is gone on it and they don't make the spare part since the iron is more than 4 years old!

Im very disappointed because i expected an iron of rrp £199 to atleast last me more than 5 years.

Has anyone had trouble with philips Irons? how long has your steam generator lasted you and of which brand. Would appreciate your answers as my ironing pile is rising every day!

I think you are stretching it a bit tbh - I think 4 years seems fair enough - you might want to get more out of it and hope to get more out of it, but I don't think 4/5 years is unreasonable.

We have a Phillips and it's about 2 years old - no issues so far.

IME, most Philips products last about a month longer than the warranty, so you've done well, really.

Hmmm.... thanks for the responses myotheruse...... and ouryve.
will not be buying a philips and an expensive one again if the life span is only 3 years!
