Double Buggy Help!

bubbaloo · 14/11/2006 10:05

I will need to get a double buggy once the baby arrives and really havent a clue what to get,so would appreciate some recommendations please.
Ds will be 22 months and will probably still need a buggy for a while as he has problems with his feet, and obviously I'll also have a newborn.
I think I would prefer a side by side buggy, rather than a tandem, and it need to folds fairly small to fit into the boot of my Fiesta.
I thought I had made my mind up and was going to get a Maclaren twin traveller, but I've since been told it won't fit in my car,due to the design of the handles.
Any advice would be much appreciated please.
TIA

Thanks for everyone's reply.I'm still sold on the PowerTwin for the time being, although I might change my mind once I see it in the flesh,or if it doesn't fit my boot.Don't think Dh would be too happy swapping cars as his is new and mine is about 10 years old,so that's not really an option.
Only thing I'm not keen on is apparently the front seat doesn't recline if you have the baby seat attached to the back and although Ds hardly ever sleeps in his buggy,it's nice to have the choice!
The shopping basket is also very small but I've currently got a Maclaren with a useless basket,so I'm used to that.
Thanks again for all the info-it's much appreciated.

Hi bubbaloo - don't know if you've made your mind up yet, but have a couple of comments re Powertwin, which I've been using for my two-year-old and four-month-old. "Only thing I'm not keen on is apparently the front seat doesn't recline if you have the baby seat attached to the back" That's true, but you can attach the baby seat to the front instead, then the toddler goes in the fully-reclining back seat (doesn't actually go fully flat, but is suitable from birth). I use this option more often than not, as toddler is then nice and close to have a chat to, and she loves to be facing the baby (baby also seems to enjoy having big sis to smile at). Toddler appears to have plenty legroom with this option too.
"The shopping basket is also very small" - not that small, but pain in the a** to get at. Also, once you've got the huge raincover in there, not much room for anything else. But if toddler decides to walk, can then stash the shopping in her seat .
Good luck with everything!

Thanks Teddimac.

We went "Buggy Hunting" the other day and Isaw the Jane and have decided against it.It was absolutely huge when folded and even after faffing with the wheels,I think it would be too big for the car.It was also alot longer than I thought, which also put me off.I did have a look at the Mothercare Hoxton tandem which folds very compact and seemed nice(apart from the stripes!),but the front seat seemed a bit small,as was the front seat on the Cosatto Duet Lite, but again, will fit my car boot.Think I'll have to take Ds with me just to see how much room they both have and if they're roomy enough,I will probably now go for one of them instead.

We've got the Mclaren Twin and it fits into the boot of our Ford Focus. Not much else fits in though with it..lol
It is very easy to fold, unfold and feels light to push

MarsLady · 25/11/2006 14:11

The Mothercare Hoxton is hideous!

I stopped a woman in a shopping centre to have a go with hers! Yuck!!!!! And it looked like it would fall apart in a trice!

bubbaloo · 25/11/2006 15:03

Compo-I love the Maclaren Twin, but it won't fit in my car as the handles stick out too much.

Marslady-I'm also not overkeen on the Hoxton, but unless they hurray up and bring a few more new buggies out asap,I don't have that much choice.

Has anyone got the Duet Lite-would be interested on their views please.
