Corsa sounds like a truck - exhaust?

My 12 year old Corsa has been great so far, sails through its mot, only has 40k mileage. However last week it started sounding like a truck! Could this be the exhaust/muffler and if so what should it cost to repair? Its mot is due anyway, so the work will have to be done very soon Sad

"Sounding like a truck" is very vague. Do you mean it's very loud? Rattly? Sounds like a diesel? (Is it a diesel?)

If it's recently got very loud then possibly the exhaust has a rupture, maybe it's come apart at a joint (if it's not sealed the full length) or a hole has developed.

Sorry, I meant it sounds very throaty, louder than usual when accelerating. It's petrol, not diesel, and semi automatic (easytronic or something? ?)

I'd guess there's a hole somewhere - depending on location and size it might just need a bit of welding.

If you use the car occasionally for only short journeys condensation can build up and pool in the exhaust, causing it to rust from the inside. If there's a lot of rot it might be time for a replacement (all or part of it).

Thanks Smile

Well, I've taken the car to a garage to have a look and there is a hole in the exhaust. Just waiting for the part, they'll repair it next week. Haven't received a quote yet. Do you think it'll be expensive? (Dh's car has just needed repairs too, so it's proving an expensive month before April even started!)

It's now fixed Smile - it was a hole in the exhaust, they replaced part, cost 90 quid including labour, parts and VAT.
