We have been given a lovely toy box for my 11m old son but it is not fitted with one of those anti-slam devices that make the lid close slowly. Does anyone know what you call them and where you can actually buy one? :-)

not sure about those - maybe called pistons?

As a stop gap you can get a bit of pipe insulation (which is basically a tube of thick foam) and cut down the side to make a slit and slide it onto the edge of the box. It won't close fully, but it won't slam.
