Cannot decide on size of car with two small children - is the estate overkilld most of the time or would a small family car suffice?

what do you have - wors? doesn't work?

We have a similar age gap and have a Citroen Zsara Picasso. We added a roof box when we went on holiday when dd2 was 3m old which worked very well and ment the body of the car was not full of stuff. The only slight issue is that my DH is quite tall (6' 2") and sits quite far back which does result in a slightly squished child behind him, but I'm not sure whether this would be any different in another car.

The Yarris was too small for 2 kids - tho I did take me, baby, toddler, double buggy, travel cot and clothes etc to my parents several times, an extra adult would have made that impossible.

Astra and Qashqai are both fine. Golf seems to be OK when my parents have the kids. And by that I mean bikes, suitcases etc, if packed carefully ie my Mum or I can manage, but DH struggles, and my father wouldn't even get the kids to fit in

We've got a jag estate and a ford focus hatch back. The focus would be fine if we didn't have a dog as well as a baby!

thanks for you input - very helpful. Think we are going for a sedan - seems like for an etstate we will be paying quite a but more for a bit more height in a boot that we wont need very often
