Which MPV do you have

Our P reg Ford Mondeo which we've had for 7 years has finally given up the ghost and we're looking to spend about £6000 on another car. I fancy an MPV, Dh not so sure. We only have 2 children but I like the potential flexibility of them, there are loads of 'minor' reasons why one would come in very handy. what does anyone have?

We've just bought a Citroen Berlingo and it is excellent. Three proper seats in the back, each with their own seat belts, loads of headroom and little storage places, plus masses of boot space. I LOVE IT!!!

we have a daewoo Tacuma. DO NOT BUY ONE! Seatbelts are short at the back so some first and secoind stage seats just won't fit. The middle seat is only 3/4 so won't fit another person in with baby seats either side.

On the plus side though, the boot is large and you can fold down the seats seperatly so when DP has a gig he just folds down the middle bit and we can leave the seats in. Thats why we bought it.

curlew, we have a bongo too...it's fantastic! Have you had yours converted? We cought ours this summer, with a conversion, for £5500. It's an "N" plate but is in great nick.

It's a beautiful van: permanent 4WD, electric blinds and windows and roof, power steering. It even has a wee spoiler on the back. It gets many admiring glances.

we got a toyota corolla verso and it rocks!! it has 3 proper searbelts in the back plus 2 extra seats in the boot if you need them also with proper seatbelts. the boot is huge back seats move forward and back to give more/less room and all seats in back flip down flat if needed so no pulling seats out mallarkey!! only changed to this format last year though so probably not in £6000 price range

curlew · 08/10/2006 21:47

kokeshi - no our bongo is unconverted because we wanted the 8 seats and we have all the camping stuff so we don't need a conversion. What colour's yours? Ours is very dark blue over silver.

Landrover Discovery - 7 seats excellent on lpg - 32ppl

curlew: Our's is just silver. My friend was telling me it can be converted to run on used chip fat!? Dunno if I would risk it though!!! We haven't been out the past two weekends, I'm missing it.

Ford S-Max although not for original poster as only came out this year and not available second hand. But can fit three full child seats across middle row of seats (which was the main criteria for us), it looks really streamlined and unboxy compared with most MPVs. Has seven seats if you need them, and all passenger seats in middle and rear rows fold flat into floor. We've had ours since June and we love it.

Comebacksummer, our chrysler does about 20 mpg around the country lanes and we probably get about 26 on the motorway. The diesel version cheaper though. Our insurance isn't too much - but we live in a very low risk area in countryside.

comebacksummer · 09/10/2006 18:45

thanks swedishmum.. i'm new to all this car malarkey as never cared before as long as double pram would fit in boot! Now i'm in a whole new territory, i can see....
any other advice on good mpvs or cars big enough to take 3 carseats would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am interested if anyone has tried fitting 3 baby car seats in a freelander?
