Getting vomit smell out of carpet - HELP

BearintheBigBlueHous · 01/04/2004 15:31

Can anyone recommend something that will fumigate DD's room, which, even after scrubbing the carpet with hot soapy water and Dettox, smells like the alley behind Yates Wine Lodge on any given Sunday morning. We have some Febreze somewhere, but if there's something better, please let me know. If the actual composition of the puke would help, I can provide that by return
Thanks.

Open the windows and out bowls of boiling water with lemons cut up in there - works with my microwave!!

Twinkie why does your microwave smell of vomit? Intrigued

miranda2 · 01/04/2004 15:45

Don't know about vomit, but febreze got wee smells out of my carpet...(toilet training...)

Bicarbonate of soda! I think you make a paste, spread it on/into the carpet and then hoover it up when dry.

There's been another thread about smells recently, can't remember the exact details.

Not vomit - fish and things like that - my god am gonna check it when get home DP was out on the sauce last night!!

LOL @ Twinkie's microwave

Borax is also good, sometimes available from chemist. Use as with SoupDragon's recipe for bicarb.

soda bicarb is the best - we just used a strong solution but the paste thing is probably more effective. Dh and I consider ourselves 'experts' in the field as ds did lots of projectile vomitting during teething.

juniper68 · 01/04/2004 16:14

just did a search, it says carpet shampoo or 2% dilution biological washing powder

geekgrrl · 02/04/2004 19:04

apparently it's important to use something with enzymes in (like the bio powder juniper suggested) as that will finish off 'digesting' the vomit. The mind boggles....
