mislaid V5 but car not transferred yet - what to do?

We are about to buy a used car, from someone we know vaguely (luckily)

This afternoon he gave me the V5 to use to arrange insurance, but between my car & the computer it has vanished into thin air Shock Blush

I knew there's a bit he was supposed to send off, but he didn't, & insisted on me bringing the whole thing away. It should turn up - I know it's here somewhere (but my house is awfully untidy...)

If it doesn't, can I just contact DVLC without his say-so to get a new one? (I mean I could have nicked the car!!!) Or should I sheepishly own up & lumber him with getting a new one which I will then fill in & send off for transfer? (I'll pay the fee, obv)

DVLA will only send replacement V5s to the registered keeper.

You can send in a V62 form to request a new one and they will contact the existing registered keeper to confirm that the person requesting the new V5 is the new registered keeper. £25 fee.

oh thanks, Mittens Smile

we're collecting the car tomorrow - I'll warn him that it's missing then, & if it doesn't turn up in a few days I'll ask him to request a new one
