Hi twiglett, I used to buy products like this for a catalogue. They are very very good value and are OK ish in terms of qaulity. When you put it together make sure you use wood glue (PVA) in all the screw holes, it will make it last a lot better. If it was solid it was cost quit a bit more , unless you go for a danish firm who make in rubberwood/ red pine type that is stained to look like other woods. Even better qaulity firms use this kind of "foil" synthetic look wood.

Have you tried THUKA playpine or FLEXA. I will get there websites and link them for you.

I will have a think through my other suppliers and get back to you to see if there is a solid wood version though.

These beds are such a great idea but I'd be careful with argos furniture, they are great for everything else but their put together stuff seems to be very poor quality.

I've had wood chest of drawers from them and send them straight back before I put them together, they were very shallow and for £60 very over priced.

I prefer Ikea furniture, much more robust.

This is flexas from Denmark , I dont know this retailer but it gives you an idea.

This is the retailers main listing you can click on each to see details of FLEXA , STOMPA, THUKA and others.

what is the m a nd s bed like twigster?

nutcracker · 17/03/2004 13:42

Twiglett - I have a beech effect bookcase from Argos so i'm thinking it would probably be made of the same or similar stuff. It has 5 shelves and 2 drawers at the bottom. Putting it simply it is CRAP. The drawers have already fell apart, and the shelves now look tatty. I have only had it about 6 months and have been very careful not to overload it. I have vowed never to buy anything like it from there again.

Agree with what others have said about Argos home assembly furniture. To put it bluntly, it's sh*t! Bought 3 beech effect chest of drawers from there 6 months ago and they have done nothing but fall apart (DP is good at DIY, so know it's not his "putting together" skills).

We have now gone and bought 8 sheets of MDF and DP is building a unit from scratch for the same price as we paid for 2 sets of drawers.

I'd say if you can afford to pay that bit more, it will be worth it as you may end up having to buy another new bed in the near future.
