We manage with the estate car at the moment but sometimes... once a week? take my son's friends or my mum or my dad in the car. Another thing we wanted to start is camping - perhaps every year. So,does it justify buying a 7 seater? We have one car for my work run and then we need one more for my dh school run. we can buy 7 seater up to £15,000 or small car for 8,000 ( warranty etc).

Yes!

Putting the like a loooong way apart for journeys is enough reason in itself,

They tend to cost more to run. I don't understand why people get them when it's not necessary to be honest.

if you want space for camping stuff then a larger saloon or an estate would be fine.

We are 2 adults and 2 kids and we used to have an older style Scenic (only 5 seats) which was lovely. When that car gave up the ghost, we got a Touran. DH thought the extra seats were completely unnecessary...he's since changed his mind and I'm glad we have the flexibility to be able to offer friends a lift or have a day out with friends and only need to take one car.

The Touran is more than adequate for our camping needs. But car seats for littlies I believe should only go in the "middle" row, so that would mean adults would have to wriggle into the last row seats - don't know if that would be a problem / consideration for you. There's only room for a bit of shopping in the boot when the "extra" seats are up (no camping gear then!)

Depends on if you want something like the Touran or Scenic Grande which have the option of 7 seats, or if you want to go the while hog & have a Galaxy / Sharan style bus... How are you for parking? On street or driveway? Differences in insurance etc.?

Volvo XC90. Two very clever pop up seats. Absolutely mahoosive boot when they're down. Still fairly enormous boot when they're up and they don't sit in the crumple zone either.
