Has anyone used the MacLaren Techno XT for a newborn?

I had one of these for ds who is now almost 3 and I am expecting no 2 in September. When ds was little he was in a Mamas & Papas pram and went into the Techno at around 6 weeks old - I had the old model which didn't lie flat. My problem this time around is that I have ds to transport as well and am trying to decide whether to get a double buggy Techno or a new single Techno plus buggy board (ds won't walk anywhere). Obviously the new Technos now lie flat but they are not very well padded for a newborn and I am wondering how comfortable the baby would be - by the time ds went into his he was wearing snowsuits when we went out so he was quite well padded. Has anyone used them successfully for a newborn? The double has headhuggers but the single doesn't...

Another option is to push ds in the buggy and put baby in a sling but I'm not keen on that idea as I tried a sling with ds and all it did was give me backache and I found it too heavy and uncomfortable to carry him around like that.

Any suggestions folks?

K

I wouldn't put a newborn in them to be honest - they just look so uncomfortable in the straps.

We had the same dilemma and went for the buggy board option.

I used Tecno and buggyboard. I put a fleece in the Techno which seemed comfy enough. Ds1 loved the buggy board (especially as the hood of the techno has pockets for snacks/toys/drinks).

I would pop a fleecy liner or head hugger thing in it and it will be fine....better than a scrunched up car seat any day!

What sort of sling do you have?

I have a Maclaren Rally Twin, a Jane Carrera, a hug-a-bub and a ring sling with an age gap between the boys of 21m.

It works.

How long will yuor DS need the buggy, do you think? Could you get him a seat-2-go? (Like a buggyboard, but with a seat on it).

And can you put a sheepskin insert into a new single Techno?

i have the techno classic. its essentially the same buggy as the XT but comes with the liner which is well padded, a head hugger and a cosy toes...all colour coded.

i would use the classic for a newborn but not the XT. the Xt doesnt seem as well padded as the classic. and there is only about £10 difference

i was in the same predicament last sept when dd2 arrived - dd1 was nearly 3 and a reluctant walker too. I bought a buggy board and tried this - not liked.

in the end dd2 was in a sling for 5mths and I took the techno for dd1. 9mths down the line, dd2 is now in the techno and dd1 walks everywhere.

I have the same as fattiemumma. The classic is a nice buggy and you can adjust the height of the straps too which helps. ds2 went in his from about 8 weeks and was much more comfy in it than his sister was in her XT at 9 months! HTH

the techno classic single comes with a head huggar and looks alot more padded for a new born
