babybackpacks: Where can I buy one secondhand?

I'm off to the countryside next weekend and what with the mud etc it would be easier to transport our baby in a backpack. I don't want to spend alot of money as not sure how much use it would get in the long term.

Try ebay? Or small ads in your local newspaper, or "Loot"? Or do you have a local 2nd hand baby goods shop (try Yellow Pages)? You can of course enter the MN competition but that's a pretty slim chance of getting one

mummysurfer · 30/01/2004 18:47

where abouts are you going, some places hire them out?

lailag · 30/01/2004 18:53

got a second hand through ebay (5 pounds+ 5pounds postal charges I remember right)and have used it on several ocasions; well worth it but may take a while for you to get it.

Jzee · 30/01/2004 19:06

I've just been on Ebay and seen a couple of carriers which I like, but am not sure how Ebay works? Is it ok, to give them your credit card no? Do you make payment direct to the owner or Ebay?

Jzee, you don't ever normally give sellers your credit card number (except a very few big sellers with shops), you pay with Paypal. This is a third party, basically, you give them your credit card details and they pay the seller. Many UK sellers take cheques though. Hard to advise without knowing the details; if you're in a hurry Paypal is best as you can make the payment instantly, but you would need to register with them first.

If it's next weekend you probably don't have time to get one on Ebay; where do you live, Jzee? I think Mothercare World branches sell them.

eidsvold · 30/01/2004 20:43

we got a brilliant one from mothercare - 20 or 30 pounds - front carry, back carry - in its own little carry bag - brilliant for when we were travelling and having to manage luggage and little one. She still fits in it and so we will use it this time as well. Just wish I had bought it earlier - she was eight months when we got it.

eidsvold · 30/01/2004 20:43

mothercare brand - meant to say

I have got a Mothercare bakcpack that you can buy from me if you want. It is dark red and has only been used twice - immaculate condition. If you send me your e-mail address I can send you a photo.

Jzee · 30/01/2004 21:46

Mingle, sounds good how much are you selling it for?

Mingle · 30/01/2004 21:50

It looks like this one but in burgundy. It hasn't got a rain cover though, but I have got some fleecy feet covers to keep little toes warm. If you pay for postage you can have it.

Jzee · 30/01/2004 21:56

I'm in London, so how much do you think the postage would be? Only thing is I'd need it this week?

OP posts:
Mingle · 30/01/2004 22:01

Hang on I will go and get it, wiegh it and work out postage rate. Bear with me it is upstairs!

Jzee · 30/01/2004 22:02

If your in London I could also come and get it?

eemie · 30/01/2004 22:03

You can have mine for nothing - contact me via mumsnet with address and I'll send it. Pass it on to some one else when you've done with it. Happy hiking

Mingle · 30/01/2004 22:07

I don't live in London and it will cost about £5 (or less) to post. If you want it e-mail me your address to malthousefarm(at)btopenworld(dot)com.

Jzee · 30/01/2004 22:25

Dh has just told me not to give my personal details over the net - nothing personal, sorry for wasting your time.

No worries, will take it back up to the attic again - hopefully the ghost won't appear

Mingle · 31/01/2004 09:14

Jzee - just to let you know that I have put it on e-bay if that is any help for you. If not have you tried asking the local tourist info board, they may know someone that hires them.
